FAMILY FRIEND'S FARM

in #beautifulsunday4 years ago (edited)

The following is my entry for #beautifulsunday created by kind @ace108. Rising early to visit a family friend's farm was super fun and an enriching experience. The hospitable owner used to be my father's classmate in school. They still kept in touch after all these years. This family own several pieces of land in the most fertile parts of Malacca.

There were two cute kittens welcoming us in front of the porch area upon arrival. The ginger kitten was very tame as it allowed me to stroke it's head without dodging or showing any sign of resistance. The calico kitten on the other hand was very shy so it ran away to hide behind some pots as soon as I approached. Have you any idea that ginger cats are usually male cats while calico cats are often female cats by gender? Now you do. Please study cats genetics to quench your curiosity.

In no time at all the generous owner offered to show us around his beautiful farm. There were many varieties of plants grown in the farm such as papaya, banana, jackfruit, lime, bamboo, cactus, rubber, coconut and more. The walk had been very enjoyable and relaxing as the overgrown trees shaded us from scorching sunlight.

Exploring the vast rubber plantation was the best part as it reminded me of my childhood. In the past, parents used to bring their kids for a walk in rubber plantations to collect rubber seeds for playing a traditional game known as "congkak." Kids these days are so disconnected from nature that they are mostly found in their rooms playing computer games. They hardly move out of their comfort zone. If given a choice, I prefer being a hillbilly over a sophisticated city dweller. Probably I'll be lucky enough to have my cake and eat it too.

Upon hearing that we will be there for a visit, the gracious farm owner prepared almost a truck load full of fruits way in advance for us to carry back to the city. In exchange, we promised to deliver some goodies to a relative on his behalf. At the moment I'm still blissfully on sugar high from stuffing my face with fruits. Such a great way to end the week!

Wishing all a wonderful weekend! 😘

Thank you for reading!

Cheers,
Wheat

Those papayas and jackfruit looks skinny.

There are two possibilities. Firstly, my skill in photography sucked because I fail to show those fruit trees in best possible light. Secondly, I appreciate beauty in imperfections when it comes to fruits and vegetables. Be mindful that huge and beautiful fruits can be harmful to health especially if they are grown with pesticides in abundance. The most important is the elderly in this household is still very healthy in his nineties. Also, they have healthy grandchildren. There are many cases of those consuming pesticide grown produce can't have children in my country.

OK, I like to try them.

Only enough for friends and family. Not for sale. Sorry!

time to plant more then.

What a nice day at the farm! Cute kittens!
Here the heat is also incredible though the sky is grey and cloudy.

How nice to have lots of fruits to take home!

Thank you. It's nice to fill stomach with fruits. Have a great week!😄

Oh, I like bamboo shoots so much and papaya. Good photography.
