The most dangerous tool to make it's way into my beauty arsenal was tweezers, shortly followed by waxing for many years. See, when I was younger and much more foolish I had great eyebrows by today's standards. I wanted to do magical things with make up. It was fun and exciting playing around with brands and shaping my eyebrows to my standard at the time. Then adulthood set in, with bills to pay and time on limited supply makeup took a back seat. For many years I didn't work with the public and didn't feel any social pressures to wear it, which was a bit of a blessing because investing in my appearance wasn't a financial priority.
Years later you can see in the before picture the extensive damage done to my eyebrows. One thing I can say is that, prior to the photo there was even less hair at one point. I attribute that to poor health at the time. Since converting to a healthier lifestyle more hair managed to grow back. I held on to it desperately too. Eventually I met my husband, who inspired and sparked my interest to start wearing makeup again. Makeup can truly be inspiring. How many days have you woke up feeling miserable, but got up and put on your best face and suddenly you feel a bit more confident that you can get through the day.
After igniting my love for makeup, I soon realized that I no longer possessed the same skill I once had for drawing and shaping my brows. Shortly thereafter I came to realize just how much time I was spending each day trying to accomplish the perfect brows and spending quite a bit of money trying to find the best product. There had to be a better option for someone like myself. I couldn't cope with the time lost out of my day when I knew that I could be doing more productive things and saving money I worked so hard for. Let's face it, when you live in Oklahoma it gets hot! Before you know it, your eyebrow has melted half way down your face, and that's before going to the gym! Not a cute look.
So I saved up my money and once I had enough, I made an appointment to have my eyebrows micro-bladed. The process was relatively quick was practically without any discomfort. For my first appointment it took less than two hours to fill out the paperwork, have them drawn to my desired shape, and finally micro-bladed. Not bad considering I would invest over an hour a week shaping them by hand. You can see by day 2 in the photo above the detail put into the brows more clearly and the irritation had reduced. By day three the brows started scabbing which is a normal healing process. Unfortunately you can't scratch them or get them wet for a recommended four weeks. That was brutal! That even included sweat reduction, which could lead to infection if not properly cared for and I wasn't going to take that chance.
By day three the scabbing continues and the brows become darker and more prominent during the healing process. Once the scabbing has fallen away you are left with beautiful softly filled brows that are well shaped and ready to go. After six weeks I had a touch up appointment that took less than an hour since the shaping had already been done the first time, but went with the decision to make it a little less archy and dramatic.
Over all I would recommend having the process done. Time and money are so valuable these days and there is no sense in wasting them. Today I feel confident to have thicker fuller brows ready to go. I still fill them in from time to time when I want a bolder look. The time I take to do my makeup has drastically reduced and I can use that time much more efficiently. They brows last for about a year and a half to two years before a touch up is required. SPF is highly recommended if you will be exposed to the sun for an extended period of time, and avoid any microdermabrasion to the area.

I wanted to do this for ages!!!!! Still haven't done it because it's really expensive but yeah... I think it's really worth it in the long run. It saves so much time!

Is this still something you currently do? I have been wanting to do this FOREVER!! I understand your trauma with the Southern heat...."it ain't no better here in Texas, neither". LOL I have spent small fortune on eyebrow products as well. I have a thyroid disorder and for some odd reason, a very rare (so says the doctor) side affect is thinning of the eyebrows. So as you could imagine, I am re-creating eyebrows each and every morning. :(
I wish I was certified to do permanent make up. Mine was done by Shannon Vu with Makeupware Forever. She is fantastic, I heard about her from another client of hers and then later found out that she is good friends with my sister in law. After seeing her work I knew I had to get it done. I can understand the thyroid issue, I have mine under control now but I was very sick for a long time, I really think they could have recovered my abuse had I not took ill. I was in Dallas for work in June and it was horribly humid and crazy rain, so really I feel your pain LOL. It is so worth it, do it if you can. I wish mine would have healed a bit better but I know that is all me and not her work.
