So, the keis were being born, and the world started to put an eye on them.

There, fashion styles are commonly knew as "kei", and start with a brand or influencer that makes them popular. The longevity of each kei depends pretty much of its own followers, so being established as keis. Everything is up to the popularity it may get. Mostly of the kei (if not all) were born as a way to protest against the conservative Japanese society. In fact, mostly of the modern fashion movements around the world are (the more you know) but there, with all of the pressure of the fast consume life and the perfectionistic Japanese thinking, young people find in fashion a way to express themselves and put a bit of color in all of the grey shades. Are they judged? Sure! But, the esthetic results worth it.
Japan became a powerful influence in fashion thanks to the strictness they apply in following each style. Some of the keiโs have strong rules to get an outfit (or coordinate) that deserve to be called stylish. But obviously, everything is about to be unique, original and self-explanatory about what you love, what makes you happy and/or how you would like to see the world: some of them see it sad and obscure, others aggressive and others happy, colorful and sweet.

All the loudness of each kei and its influencers not only has Japanese followers. With the internationalization of Japan trough internet, the occidental (and also oriental itself) world began to question โhey, if they can, why I canโt?โ. Even when the keis are somehow inspired by European and American influences, the way Japanese youngsters portrayed (and still portray) itโs mesmerizing. It may seem exaggerated, but the main idea is to break their limits in fashion and just express themselves with no strings or rules. So, the idea of fashion freedom breaks with many conceptions in our culture and give us a bright vision ready to be applied in our personal styles. This became a feedback: they take occidental styles (even from other centuries) and apply them in their fashion creating unique subcultures and currents, and then we take those as inspiration for our personal styles.
The results are in this modern era, where the โKawaiiโ culture and the visuals of Japanese fashion have a huge niche in the entire planet. Thanks internet.

Even if you donโt want to follow any of the keis religiously, you can get totally inspired by them. Many artist, fashion designers, influencers and young/old people felt inspired by them, and also adopted the lifestyle that they imply. The confidence or wearing something that truly identify yourself, even if it doesnโt fit with the whole fashion knowledge around you, punps out your security in yourself in ways that you cannot imagine. However, there is something that needs to be pointed out: it has to fit you, or in other words, it has to look good in you. Jfashionist are severely strict with the whole aesthetic of each kei. If it looks bad, or itโs now cute in the person wearing it, or simply doesnโt point out your cuteness, it wonโt work at all. Itโs not just about wearing what you want to wearโฆ itโs about finding a style that suits you, and making it esthetic.

A bright hue of the fashion, protesting against the rules of being โan adultโ in a conservative world but without being childish at all. The cuteness, calm and joy of child fashion but made for adults. Or the sobriety of gothic style but with a cute/fun twist. Taking hip hop culture to give it a more visual aesthetic. Space fashion, inspired by retro futuristic ideas from the 50โs to the 90โs. And even taking fashion sense from other centuries and modernizing them to make an aristocrat yet cute style.

Allรก, los estilos de moda son comรบnmente llamados โkeiโ, y comienzan a ser auge con una marca o influencer que los vuelve populares. La longevidad de cada kei depende mucho de sus propios seguidores, al igual que el mero hecho de ser conocidos como tal. Todo se resume a la popularidad que puedan obtener. Casi todos los keis (sino todos) nacieron como una forma de protesta contra la sociedad conservadora Japonesa; de hecho, la mayorรญa de las corrientes de moda modernas alrededor del mundo lo son (conociendo mas), pero allรก, con toda la presiรณn de la vida de consumo rรกpido y el pensamiento perfeccionista japonรฉs, la gente joven encuentra en la moda una forma de expresarse, poniendo un toque de color en todas las sombras grises. ยฟQuรฉ si son juzgados? ยก claro que sรญ! Todo el ruido de cada kei y sus influencers no solo cuentan con seguidores japoneses. Aun cuando las keis de alguna forma estรกn inspiradas en influencias europeas y americanas, la forma en la que los jรณvenes japoneses la interpretaron (y aun la interpretan) es fascinante. Puede lucir exagerado, pero la idea principal es romper con los lรญmites de la moda y simplemente expresarse a si mismos sin reglas ni ataduras; Entonces, la idea de la libertad en la moda rompe con muchas concepciones en nuestra cultura y nos da una brillante visiรณn lista para ser adoptada en nuestros estilos personales. Aun si no quieres seguir religiosamente alguna de las keis, puedes verte totalmente inspirado por ellas. Muchos artistas, diseรฑadores de moda, influencers y personas chicas y grandes se han sentido inspiradas por ellas e incluso han adoptado el estilo de vida que implican. La confianza de usar algo que verdaderamente te identifica, aun cuando esto vaya en contra del conocimiento sobre moda a tu alrededor, saca aรบn mรกs la confianza en ti mismo en formas que no puedes imaginar. Sin embargo, hay algo que debe ser puntualizado: debe ajustarse a ti, o en otras palabras, debe lucir bien en ti. Los Jfashionistas son severamente estrictos con toda la Aesthetic de cada kei. Si luce mal, o no se ve lindo en la persona que la usa, o simplemente no puntualiza ni destaca tu lindura, no va a funcionar. No se trata solo de usar lo que quieres usar, sino mรกs bien de darle un sentido estรฉtico, encontrando un estilo que se ajuste a ti.

Un matiz brillante en la moda, protestando contra las reglas de ser โun adultoโ en un mundo conservador pero sin ser infantil en lo absoluto. La lindura, calma y alegrรญa de la moda infantil pero hecha para adultos. O, la sobriedad del estilo gรณtico pero con un pequeรฑo giro lindo o divertido. Tomar la cultura hip hop para darle un sentido mรกs Aesthetic, mas visual, o crear moda โespacialโ, inspirada en las ideas retro futuristas desde los aรฑos 50โs hasta los 90โs. E incluso, tomando el sentido de la moda de otros siglos atrรกs y modernizรกndolos para lograr un estilo aristocrรกtico y lindo.

im sorry this post was so under appreciated. I thought it was quite interesting even tho I consider fashion a bit silly sometimes. i love anime which is in some ways connected to japanese fashion sense. and i can understand the reason behind not wanting to conform or be an adult hahah. i just wanted you to know that someone appreciates your work :) be well!
Torico! <3 Well, japanese fashion got influenced by anime, but anime also take influences from fashion. We can say they have a 50/50 influence in each other.

Es paradรณjico que aunque las keis sean para protestar, igual mantenga su rigidez para ser parte de ellas, la cultura japonesa es bastante interesante, una mezcla desde o mas conservador hasta una sexualidad muy abierta y loca XD
