Oberon Season

in #beersaturday3 years ago

It's finally Oberon Season! If you are not in the distribution area of Bell's Brewery you might know about this nectar of the gods! Oberon season is when Bell's releases this tasty brew and it signals that spring is here.

Bell's brewer is one of the largest breweries in Michigan. Larry Bell the founder opened opened a Homebrew supply store in 1983. The first beer was brewed Sept. 19, 1985. It was done in Br 15-gallon soup pot. Today they brew 500,000 barrels per year!

Oberon is one of their flagship beers. It's also one of the first beers I tried. This beer has a ton of sentimental value, but it's something I don't drink a ton of because my tastes have changed over the years.

This beer has huge orange and citrus aromas. It's recommended to drink it with a slice of orange which amplify those notes. If you are fan of Blue Moon this is the better version of that. They have very similar aromas, tastes and mouthfeel. However, Bell's version has more developed characteristics in every category.

They also have updated the packaging over the years and the new brighter colors makes the beer feel even more spring like. The flavor profile is slightly spicy with notes of wheat, orange, citrus and some good bread like backend flavors. It's light enough to drink a few and pairs well with grilled meats.

I want to give these beer a 5/5, but realistically it's like 4.25/5. My nostalgic memories are making my ratings a bit bias.

Brewer's Notes

Oberon is a wheat ale fermented with our signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer. Made with only 4 ingredients, and without the use of any spices or fruit, Oberon is the color and scent of sunny afternoon.

My wife and I were driving down the road the other day and we happened to be behind a semi that had the Bell's logo all over it. I teased her that we should hijack the truck and take all of the Oberon. Such good stuff! I am excited to have my first one of the year soon.

I have had three and have one left in the refrigerator. That's my quota for the year. I'm just trying to go pick up some sours!

Looks like a nice !BEER
Cheers!!
