The Collaborator

What we have here is Storm Cloud’s Collaborator-foeder, which was made in collaboration with The Filling Station Microbrewery in Traverse City Michigan.

This a a mostly traditional Munich Helles fermented with 100% lager yeast. They have non-traditionally lagered this light bodied lager for two months in a new Oak Foeder for a slight oaky backbone. This process provides some drying tannins which adds complexity to a fairly simple style.

This beer is clear with a rich amber colors. It’s highly carbonated which gives a beautiful cascading bubbly effect in the glass. There’s not much of head as it disappeared quickly to a halo cap.

The aroma leans heavily on the malt and subtle sweetness normally found in a larger. It’s a very fragile aroma that’s carried on the higher level of carbonation.

The taste is smooth and sweet with a traditional ‘beer’ flavor. That’s a combination of malt, bread, wheat and yeast characteristics. It’s comes off simple, but it’s so clean and refreshing I don’t mind.

The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. That high level of carbonation tickles the mouth and finishes dry which is a great combination.

Overall, this is a solid collaboration. It’s cool seeing breweries mixing traditional styles with not so traditional techniques.

I love the color of this !BEER
Cheers!!

It’s a beautiful beer. I don’t see the style that often, but the clearer appearance is nice in a beer.

Hmmmmm, sounds like the oak has added to the depth of flavour of this one, but still a refreshing beer. - lovely photos too.

Is it just amber colored or does it have similarities to something like Killians? I haven't had one of those in forever. I need to buy myself a six pack at some point.

Killians is a red ale so it's close. This leans more to a malty lager.
