#BeerSaturday 234 - Bar Chefs, Lunar Deities and Haze

#BeerSaturday is at week 234 and

I became a beer blogger because of the years I have spent brewing for myself, the breweries I work with now on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing combine for the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist.

For week 233, I am heading back into the swing of taprooms and new beer discovery.

Pint of the Week!

IMG_3256.jpg

The pint of the week is a popular feature on Zeke's Sweet Hops as I reflect on a social pint usually shared somewhere out in the community over the busy week. A moment to reflect on a nice craft beverage and share it with the masses.

This week, I am hanging with my boy Dave who knows I love my IPAs. He is the bar chef at the newly opened Bar BQ https://www.bar-bq.ca/ which deliciously happens to be a client or ours with @town-crier https://towncriermarketing.ca and look at that pose! The social beer in the spotlight is Thrust an IPA by one of my all-time favourite breweries Great Lakers Brewing https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/ They have have brewed this one as a New England IPA https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/thrust-an-ipa/the last couple years and I just love it. Even better when served with delicious bbq bar bites. Recommend!

Lacus Mortis

IMG_3291.jpg

Speaking of Great Lakes Brewing, I got one of those drive by beering text messages from my big city friends enjoying fresh new releases. Living only a mile or 2 from the brewery, they get many of the limited releases that never make it to my neck of the woods. When it is an IPA, even better!

IMG_3292.jpg

Lacus Mortis West Coast IPA is one I have never even heard of before and of a style that might just be up my alley. Contrary to many of their other labels, the image is actually well done with the style, contrast and everything but the 4 shades of red. Either way, I like the skull guy with the toque and can't recall a west coast IPA I didn't like. What's inside?

IMG_3258.jpg

Turns out, this is a collaboration with Third Moon Brewing Company https://thirdmoonbrewing.com/ which is another new one to me from an hour or so down the road. They seem to be IPA heads too and I am totally into a collab brew.

When you read the story on the secondary panel, you get the feeling you are about to get learnt on some cool stuff while you enjoy a lowbrow pint. Then, you read the whole story, realize it is bullshit, and wonder why they bothered to write it.

Either way, this is a solid bee and one I would definitely buy again. Good thing I know a good brewery who plays well with others and pumps out IPAs with all kinds of stupid labels and stories.

Catch Some Haze

IMG_3238.jpg

I was rooting in my fridge for something new when I came across this little stranger I didn't recognize. A refreshing looking thing with a label I didn't recognize with a nice big orange slice on it? Turns out, it was a straggler from my visit to Redline Brewery http://www.redlinebrewhouse.com/ you can see I started talking about here https://hive.blog/beersaturday/@zekepickleman/beersaturday-232-goin-back-to-barrie Another pleasant surprise in the belly of the fridge of a #beerologist

Catching Some Haze Witbier https://redline-brewhouse.shoplightspeed.com/catching-some-haze.html probably captured my attention with the word Haze and the reference to citrus. I am okay with a wheat beer anyhow and down for a new one at that.

Weighing in at a reasonable 5.1% abv, this is a smooth-drinking and reasonable refreshing beverage not completely unlike Belgian Wheat brews I have had before. I say not unlike because the Belgians I have drank with would probably proclaim "This is not a Belgian Witbier" and they are not wrong. Still, yummy and I would love to drink this on tap if it improbably made it in keg to a restaurant in my parts. Not bad!

I have a couple more Redline Brews to cover now that I think of it. Maybe next week!

Thanks for the invite my friend. I'm not sure what I can come up with, but I'll see what I've got stored away in my picture folders. I haven't been getting out much lately to enjoy a cold one.
