Crypto News - Bitcoin Gold Fork - Who is doing what (exchange overview)

in #bgold7 years ago

With the Bitcoin Gold fork on the horizon I thought I best put together a quick list of who is supporting what or what their official stance is.

In regards to hardware wallets and software wallets; as long as you hold the keys you can access your coins, no matter who forks where, provided no one steals your keys. If you hold the keys you can import them to any legitimate code and get the altcoin out of it. Based off the past some wallets did not support any fork while others implemented support within a reasonable period of time while others have pending access through their service in the works (at the time of writing Jaxx is yet to implement BCH support but is actively working on it).

So on with the list. It is brief and may not cover everyone. These are based off who effects me or the large majority, it is not a complete list. I have ordered this alphabetically for ease of use.

Bittrex
"Bittrex will make all reasonable attempts to credit our users BTG but until we have a fully supported wallet, we can neither guarantee tokens or consider creating a market"
https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002320451

CEX.IO
"we guarantee that all users will receive the BTG in correspondence to the Bitcoins on their CEX.IO accounts"
https://blog.cex.io/news/segwit2x-bitcoin-gold-16616

Coinbase (Note: official statement displayes different info on fork status dates to the BTG Github)
"Coinbase may decide to support it at a later date."

Coinjar
"we strongly encourage them to withdraw their Bitcoin funds from CoinJar to a privately hosted bitcoin wallet", but "It's possible that a Bitcoin Gold claim may be offered in the future" subject to an up to 8 week review and a minimum holding of 0.1 btc in the user's account at the time of the fork.

Kraken
No official statement, to my knowledge was the first to support Bitcoin Cash on its exchange but this may not be an indicator of the BTG fork.

Poloniex
No official statement, has delivered bitcoin derivatives in the past.

As a closing note please be reminded that holding your own keys is the safest option (big honeypot vs small honeypot, flexibility...). If you wish to purchase a hardware wallet I will provide my referral links below:

Another point of interest leading up to this fork is that based off the past the mempool has shrunk notable. You can monitor the network fees here. This is useful incase you want to make a sneaky consolidation of your wallets while fees are down, it also presents a great opportunity to get your segwit addresses populated at a minimal fee.

As always... Comments welcome. You should make your own decisions or contact professionals. I am not liable for any conclusions or decisions made from viewing this post or links.
