Jesus usually refers to himself as the son of man, and not only did he conceive of God in the same way as jews he was a jew and so were all his followers.
It was only Paul, the Herodian, who separated Jesus's teaching from being jewish( jewish strictly in the sense of one who follows the law, not some racial group).
The well known story of roman persecution of christians was really the persecution of jews(some of whom were followers of Yeshua) due to the religions anti-slavery bias and refusal to sacrifice to roman state religion.
By the way I didn't bring up the Son of man because I think it contradicts your point but because I'm curious what you think its significance is.
