I am sad to report the Bitcoin.com Bus will not have an official bitcoin meetup in Las Vegas because the bitcoin organizer believes that dash is a scam.
If you are in Vegas and want to casually meetup with us in 3 to 4 hours, hit us up via social media and we can see what we can work out (any leads on a dog friendly bitcoin restaurant in Vegas?)
(Edit, we made our own meetup! https://www.meetup.com/Brave-New-Books-Meetup/events/233480945/ )
I could not figure out why we were having such trouble confirming a time/location for our meetup - in 2014 they were super supportive and helped plan our bitocin-only tour stop with excitement. Yesterday I messaged the organizer and suggested a casual gathering for people who could meet us as we passed through since the official meetup failed to manifest. His response was that our support for dash is why he will not help us organize.....
I have now been removed and banned from the Las Vegas Bitcoin Facebook page for trying to organize an impromptu gathering for later today. I hope we can find a way to connect with bitcoiners in Vegas today. Please spread the word.
Here is my conversation with the organizer this morning:
8/18, 5:54pm
Catherine Bleish
Hey so we failed at confirmed a vegas meetup, would anyone want to join us for a meal on an as-possible basis while we roll through?

Nothing personal, but your support and promotion of Dash does not motivate me to share my social networks.

Catherine Bleish
Why wouldn't that be something to discuss at a meetup?
What a heartbreaking and unexpected response :(
Julian Tosh

Sorry, I don't mean anything person, but I'm very against supporting altcoins.
Catherine Bleish

Catherine Bleish
And that's OK, but why wouldn't we discuss that? We are the Bitcoin.com Bus - we are traveling on bitcoin and seeing where we can test others
What is wrong with structurally sound altcoins? Is it cause you are invested in BTC or you think it will weaken btc or something?
I feel like people should have a chance to meet us and see the bus and talk to us, I am very sad to see this is why nothing happened in Vegas. You are the only tour stop who responded this way.

I do not support Dash because it is a instamine scam with no innovation. its anonymity comes from coinjoin. masternodes are vulnerable to sybil attacks, especially since it was instamined.
Catherine Bleish

Catherine Bleish
You may feel this way, and that's OK but to silence our tour stop because of this instead of facilitating a conversation? John and I have found great innovation with Dash, and John talked to the creator about the instamine...
John here. Innovations:
- incentivized nodes to prevent centralization
- 2.5 minute block times

I'm not silencing anything. You're more than welcome to come to Vegas and talk to whoever you like. I'm just not going to help you promote it because of your involvement in something I consider to be a scamcoin.
Catherine Bleish
9:07am
Catherine Bleish - InstantX which allows 100 millisecond confirmations times
- decentralized masternode governance system and budget system
- coin mixing built in to core client
the coin and protocol work mastefully, there is no scam about it. adotpion is growing, its market cap is higher than ever, and the community is thriving
where is the scam in that? the creator screwed up and messed up the mining algorithim in the beginning. maybe he did it on purpose, either way, the fundamentals are there, the code is sound, and there is immense innovation over bitcoin
you are doing your meetup a great disservice by preventing this awesome coin from being highlighted.
another point, we arent the dash show. we have many different sponsors all in the decentralized tech space and crypto space and we have lots to offer.
even roger ver and other big btc names see value in dash, im sorry you dont
Cat again, I wish you had told us why weeks ago and we would have re-routed
This makes me sick to my stomach to know it wasn't a matter of someone being too busy, but someone deliberately ignoring our attempts to create a local stop and not telling us.
Catherine Bleish
9:20am
Catherine Bleish
I have to publicize this to explain why no official bitocin meetup is taking place.
Julian Tosh
9:24am
Julian Tosh
Please do. I'd love the opportunity to tell people more people why dash is a scamcoin and why protocol layer anonymity coin will never make it to the mainstream economy.
Catherine Bleish
9:24am
Catherine Bleish
If you would love that opportunity, you would have scheduled a meetup for us
Other than Evan's fuckup, what do you think makes it a scam?
Julian Tosh
9:26am
Julian Tosh
As if I needed more?
Catherine Bleish
9:28am
Catherine Bleish
People screw up, people are human, does not negate the rest of the protocol? How does it even make it a scam?
Julian Tosh
9:28am
Julian Tosh
Then reset the ledger if you fuck up. it was literally only 24 hours old at the time.
Catherine Bleish

The mainstream adoption will come with the instant transactions
Julian Tosh

Julian Tosh
bitcoin transactions are instant. bitpay does it all day long.
Catherine Bleish
9:29am
Catherine Bleish
They discuss that on John's podcast, still does not make it a scam. And bitcoin transactions can take FOREVER, have you ever been left standing there waiting for a gift card or for a restaurant to consider your payment made?
Either way, this is a conversation I am sure many in your meetup would have appreciated having in person. You silenced us and took that chance away from them. No bueno :(
Julian Tosh
9:31am
Julian Tosh
again, I didn't silence anything, i'm just not giving you access to my resources. Why do you feel you're owed this? do you realized you're acting like a Jehovah's witness right now? I'm not interested in what you're selling and you're just being annoying.
Catherine Bleish
9:32am
Catherine Bleish
Now you are calling names
The bitcoin meetup is a community and we are making stops in the bitcoin communities across the country
You used your position of power to silence an idea you don't like, even though it is 100% relevant
Julian Tosh
9:33am
Julian Tosh
A bitcoin meetup is about bitcoin. i have no power. wtf are you talking about?
Catherine Bleish
9:34am
Catherine Bleish
as a bitcoin meetup organizer?
and our bus has traveling almost exclusively on bitcoin
and is called the bitcoin.com bus
and you were a wonderful host last time
So yes, I feel silenced
lour bus has traveled*
Julian Tosh

last time you weren't pumping a scamcoin.
Catherine Bleish
9:36am
Catherine Bleish
We are 100% relevant to your bitcoin meetup and this conversation deserves to be public, I bet your meetup attendees will be sad to learn why there was no meetup as we passed through
So there you go. Thanks for the 2014 hospitality. I am shocked and saddened by this response.
Julian Tosh
9:37am
Julian Tosh
im equally appalled by your pumping a scamcoin.
Catherine Bleish

Catherine Bleish
We don't see it that way, neither do many of the big thinkers in bitcoin
You have an obscure view that is being used to silence conversation that should be had.
Good day.
The dude sounds like someone from the mainstream financial system talking about Bitcoin.
He broke my heart, honestly. I was so surprised when he responded that way. I should have guessed something was up, cause he was a WONDERFUL host on our previous tour.
Very sad to read. Sorry you found someone so bull-headed about open discussion @catherinebleish. All best on the rest of the tour! Wish y'all were swinging back by NH this time :)
We will find a way there soon enough!
I've encountered that unpleasant individual in the comments of Roger Ver's facebook posts. I truly hope you succeed in working around this obstacle.
@voluntary - the issue has gainen enough publicity that I think long term it became a net positive. No official meetup, but lots of conversation inspired and we will give out free dash here in Vegas despite him :)
Lol...how far we've fallen...
I would have thought all those topics of discussion would've made a lively and information Meetup of crypto fans. Sorry but Fuck him. Make your own Vegas Meetup, anyone on the Meetup app with an interest in Bitcoin or crypto will get a notification anyway.
We are picking a place right now :D
You can't please everyone. Dash is my favorite Crypto, but not everyone sees it that way.
I feel like we should be able to have a civil discussion about it!
What's sad was his total unwillingness to have a dialogue with your group. Sorry you had to experience that :(
Can't we all just get along?
Divide and conquer?
It's only currency competition if bitcoin is the contender. If any other alternate option is available, it's not fair.
Sad. I lost respect for Julian. He was lazy and inconsiderate of you guys, and decided to hide that through being not an altcoin skeptic, but rather just an asshole. Sorry this happened to you guys.
Very sorry this happened to you and a big -1 for that side of the community. They truly do sound like people in the fintech sector before bitcoin was largely accepted.
I'd be happy to host you at the Ogden in Downtown Las Vegas. It's a dog friendly building. We've got a rooftop pool and jacuzzi. 150 Las Vegas Blvd North. Ask for Hartej. :)
@hartej - that is the sweetest offer! We already booked at a hotel very near you! We will stay 2 nights so maybe we can manifest a meetup for tomorrow night!
gah!
:( :( :(
Sorry to hear about you being treated that way. Just so you're aware, this post has been "borrowed" for a misleading marketing attempt for some podcast. I asked the marketer for comments but haven't received a reply yet.
Is the poscast about what happened? @jazzka?
Just for the record, I got a reply and this was basically a misunderstanding about a paywall. I'm not a huge paywall fan and didn't understand the background fully. All is good now.
thanks for sharing this material. I like what you posted. if you want you can visit my blogg you. Thank you
what a scumbag.
"bitpay does it all day long."
lol, a centralized 3rd party fee riddled service that censors businesses they don't like vs a censorship free decentralized protocol level solution. it's not hard to see which one is more efficient and will win at the end of the day. the btc maximalist are scared as hell of dash and they should be.
crosspost...
"vulnerable to sybil attacks due to its incentivized masternode system."
lol, just the opposite. this btc maximalist has no idea what he is even talking about.
the instamine is old news and has been explained ad nauseum. it has no effect on anything now.

Was The Instamine A Positive Thing For Dash?

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”
― Upton Sinclair
i forgot to add that dash/instantsend is double spend proof unlike btc and bitpay.
"Julian Tosh
Then reset the ledger if you fuck up. it was literally only 24 hours old at the time."
anyone want to bet if it was reset this btc maximalist would complain about immutability like with ethereum?
from what i understand they did not realize the extent of the instamine at first because there were no block explores. once they knew what happened they voted and it was decided it would be unfair to reset and just to keep going. anyone that bought (or missed out) after that can not claim scam.
most of those coins were dumped on the market for very cheap and anyone could have bought as many as they wanted. also, almost just as many coins have been hacked from exchanges over the last 2 years and dumped for cheap. there was plenty of opportunity to buy cheap coins (under $2.25) as recently as january of this year 2016.
afaik the largest dash holder otoh bought all his coins and did not mine any. i bought all my coins on the free market under $2.25 and did not mine any. the only people claiming scam are the ones who for whatever reason failed to buy those cheap coins.
How did so many Bitcoiners manage to start acting like the establishment, despite the fact that Bitcoin has barely gotten anywhere...?
"masternodes are vulnerable to sybil attacks, especially since it was instamined."
even if one person mined/bought 2,000,000 coins there would only be a 0.35% chance of deanonymizing a privatesend transaction. so that's over $26 million (at current prices) they would have to put up/risk losing just to sybil/snoop on less than half a percent of all transactions.

@catherinebleish I support BITCOIN and I support BITCOIN'S little brother/sibling STEEM. At one time bitcoin WAS the SCAM coin. At one PAYPAL was a scam. My 2 cents, literally.
full $teem ahead!
