I think that, like many goldbugs, he just has an enormous emotional investment in gold, and, whether consciously or subconsciously, sees Bitcoin and cryptos as a threat to the event that would redeem that long held belief. I don't think it is malicious, and he certainly isn't controlled by some shadowy cabal. He is just in cognitive dissonance, and it is very difficult to break out of that.
The sad part is that he will lose out on benefiting from the dollar collapse he has so long predicted.
