Why isn't EVERYONE with a recent computer mining bitcoin already?!? (Originally written 11 months ago.)

FYI: A standard non-overclocked GTX1070 laptop currently generates about $1.60 to $1.80 (US) per day in bitcoin.

Average that to $1.70/day, and that's about $12.50 a week, or $53.00 a month, or $640.00 per year, at the current bitcoin valuation of $7650.00 US.

If John McAfee is correct, it'll be worth about 100 times more than that by the end of 2020. So if you're generating bitcoin TODAY, but those bitcoins rise in value ONE HUNDRED TIMES over the next few years, that changes EVERYTHING.

If he's right, that means that what you're generating TODAY will be worth about $170.00 per day, or $1250.00 per week, or $5300.00 per month, or $64,000.00 per year.

Why is ANYBODY out there NOT mining "a buck or two a day" TODAY?!? Are they all incapable of doing elementary math?

UPDATE: Today, that same 1070 GPU generates about a half a buck a day. Roughly $3.50 a week, or $14.00 a month, or $168 a year. The price is stable at about $5,000.00 If McAfee's STILL right about the value at the end of 2020, then we're looking at 200 times the "current value" of everything you mined TODAY.

That'd work out to about $100.00 a day, $700.00 a week, $3,000 a month, or $36,000 a year. All for just letting your computer do a bit of extra work while you're using it anyway (or while you're not).

Let's say that you listened a year ago, and "only generated a half a buck a day on average" since then. TODAY, you'd "only" have about $182.50 in bitcoin...at today's value. If you never mined another bit, (if McAfee's right, again) that "piddly little waste of time to mine a half a buck" might end up being worth $36,500.00 by the end of 2020. That's NEVER MINING ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL THE END OF 2020!!!

Chances are, the amount you'll mine will decrease over time...but if the values continue to grow as expected, it'll still be worth it for you to mine TODAY...if you understand basic math. (Which most people don't seem to.)

For those who just never looked it in those amazingly simplified and easily understood terms, here's something that YOU can try on the computer you're using RIGHT NOW to see what YOU can generate with the machine in front of you...or the machine you're going to build, or just throw a new GPU (or two) into...

Something to think about...or to just keep ignoring...like the vast majority of people will.
