Considering that we're talking about a space that is less than $100B I highly doubt this is accurate.
A large part of the volume of trades is coming out of Japan, China, and Korea which can be observed on coinmarketcap. So if anyone is controlling price action its among that group with the big coins.
On the smaller coins it depends entirely on the coin and markets they're traded in and can be easily manipulated as a result.
