CryptoBay #5

in #bitcoin8 years ago

Tonight was another great event for the CryptoBay. This time was a little bit different as we combined with “re-think investments” which is a regular event run by Beta-I discussing the most relevant things in the world of investments today. What did this mean for CryptoBay? Well firstly, it was a slightly different structure. Instead of the typical format of a presentation by a key speaker followed by discussion and debate, this time we had a panel who gave a brief background about themselves and then discussion which was led by our panel members, MC’s, and audience. It was a cool structure for a change as it let the people in attendance dictate more where the conversation went. There was also barbecue and drinks available to all in attendance which is always a bonus!

The three main speakers for the night had a lot to add. All with different areas of expertise, the topics were wide ranging and each guest had their own unique element to add. Carolina Marçalo, head of partnerships at Appcoins, had many insightful experiences to share from her time thus far in the Appcoins project. Everybody got really involved when Carolina shared the experience of bringing Appcoins through an ICO. There was also some discussion followed up around this topic which included the role of long-term investors and short-term speculators in ICO’s, the strengths of utility versus security tokens, and the general process which is gone through for conducting ICO’s. One interesting part of the process which was noted was the strategic building of relationships by Carolina which led to the eventual listing of Appcoins on the Binance exchange. For those interested, as of writing this on 30th March 2018, Appcoins is currently listed 196th on coinmarketcap.com with a market cap of just over 35 million. With a softcap of approx 2.5 million and a hard cap of approx 15 million for the ICO, this looks to have been a good investment for those who got involved at the ICO stage.

George Basiladze, CEO of CryptoPay, returned to participate in his second CryptoBay event in a row. Once again, George presented strong and independent dispositions on many topics including the distinction between security and utility tokens, regulation in the crypto space, and also ICO’s. We will be sure to see George for more events as he is a great addition to the discussion, and brings a depth of knowledge in the regulation and business space that only comes with years of experience.

We also had Nate Geier on the panel who is recently after moving to Lisbon from Oregon. Nate‘s initial background was in both tech start-ups and development, and is an example of the strong talent which is moving over to Lisbon’s booming tech scene. Nate definitely has an interesting background story which he details in a medium article which you can find here. A few years ago, Nate got interested cryptocurrencies from both the investment side and the development side. With knowledge of many different platforms and drawing from previous experiences in tech start-ups, Nate was another great addition to the panel providing a unique perspective.

We run these meetups every two weeks so for anybody in the Lisbon area, be sure to pop in. If you are not in the Lisbon area, you can join our community on social media as we will be putting out more content and expanding our network in the crypto world. Have a great Easter everybody!
