I think Rootstock and Counterparty will take a part of Etereums market, because the much higher security of the Bitcoin blockchain, but in some cases the security of Ethereum will be enough and then this will be the choice. So its hard to forecast, and i hold them both, but in general i think many use cases will shift from an own blockchain to the Bitcoin blockchain in future. Only the real special ones will survive and exist together with Bitcoin.
They serve different purposes. A better question is "will the Bitcoin backed and Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible smart contract platforms Rootstock and Counterparty overtake Etherium?"
I will keep them both ;)

nope, never... simple because ether isnt a reserve of value... bitcoin have a limited number but eth is unlimited.
Value in crypto comes from its DEV team and applications.
