Kambria: Advancing the Robotics and AI Economy With Blockchain Technology and Crypto-Economics

in #bitcoin6 years ago

Kambria aims to launch an open innovation platform, similar to Linux and Android, that improves on the Robotics and AI economy by making the development faster, easier and cheaper. The platform will be fueled by blockchain technology and a reward system that incentivizes contributing community members. The crypto-economics in combination with blockchain technology intend to make the platform self-sufficient.

The Kambria team themselves have a front row seat within the evolution of this new frontier tech called Robotics and AI. They have been manufacturing Ohmni, a telepresence robot they created within their Silicon Valley based company called OhmniLabs. Ohmni has been the product of years of research and development in which the team noticed some key indicators that should be changed to improve the industry for the better.

Whitepaper introduction

The robotics and AI industry have some recurring issues. Big companies tend to keep research and development information about robotics and AI private which isn’t particularly beneficial to the industry. Smaller development teams need to reinvent the wheel because there is no previous information available about specific development. Start-ups often struggle to get enough funding for robotics development.

While working on the development of telepresence robot, Ohmni, the team at OhmniLabs experienced they could save a lot of time, effort and money by working together with other robotics companies or developers. This epiphany initiated the birth of Kambria International.

Solving these industry issues will accelerate the robotics and AI economy growth as well as provide developers with the tools to build faster, cheaper and easier.

Kambria architecture and utility token model

The Kambria architecture is comprised of 4 key players; developers; backers; companies and users which all come together in the Kambria platform. Developers work on community proposals and supply solutions. Backers will be rewarded for processing transactions on the Kambria Network and for holding their KAT tokens in their wallet. Companies set-up campaigns that ask for innovative solutions to a problem for which they will pay developers bounty-fees. End users buy robotics products from the companies that sell them.

All the players are somehow connected to the Kambria Platform which is comprised of 5 main pillars: KDNA (Kambria Code Base); marketplace; manufacturing; value capture and legal enforcement.

Kambria’s code base is a modular interface that is the essence of the platform. The code base contains reusable software, hardware and robotics and AI components that are also efficient for collaboration and development purposes. In the marketplace, new bounty campaigns will be set up in which KAT tokens will be rewarded to successful participants. The manufacturing alliance is a collaborative partnership between the project’s top manufacturers in which they share knowledge, resources and application programming interfaces (APIs). Value capture is implemented to make the Kambria Network self-sufficient and independent from donations. Adding KAT on digital asset exchanges will also add value to the platform as it enhances token liquidity which might attract more developers to the platform. Legal enforcement will take place when malicious actors try to corrupt the platform by using other peoples work without contributing themselves. Platform users can file a claim (initiated by a smart contract) with the platform’s legal compliance department.

KAT and KARMA tokens

Kambria Network’s native token is the ERC20 based KAT token. KAT tokens are minted to fuel the network and make it self-sufficient. The platform reward system is based on providing KAT tokens as an incentive to community participants. KAT tokens can be safely stored in a hardware wallet. As stated in their official Telegram channel, Kambria’s native KAT tokens are initially priced at $ 0.02 each.

Kambria Karma tokens are not ERC20 based and do not have a pegged dollar value as they are used on the Kambria platform only and are not intended as a medium of exchange on a digital asset trading website. Karma tokens are solely used to track the work done on the network. In the future with the further development of Kambria Network, holders of Kambria Karma can be given additional long-term incentives.

Roadmap

Kambria’s project roadmap is clean and simple:

Q4 2017: the platform design was created.

Q2 2018: Kambria’s minimum viable product (MVP) was released in April of this year.

Q3 2018: the platform’s beta release took place on the 26th of September with a big launch party. To develop on the platform or become a contributing community member, check out, https://app.kambria.io

Q2 2019: Somewhere between the months of April and June of 2019 the official launch of the Kambria Platform will take place.

Use cases

Kambria offers a large array of verticals that can be implemented as real-world solutions. During the last AMA with Kambria CEO Dr. Thuc Vu, he mentioned they are working on some interesting projects at the moment. Currently, the team is working on launching a low-cost, high-performance robotics arm that can manipulate objects in the real world and they are also working on an autonomous navigation system that will enable food delivery robots and hotel room service robots.

A few markets in which Kambria can really make a difference are the transportation and healthcare sector.

The transportation industry can benefit greatly from new innovative advancements. Autonomous vehicles can decrease the number of casualties that the regular transportation sector faces. It can also solve the cities congestion issues, especially since the urbanization is still increasing. Kambria allows for a development community to come together and to co-create an innovative solution to the current transportation issues.

With a growing community of elderly citizens that are in need of healthcare solutions, this is an excellent industry for developers to come together an create helpful solutions, which enable people to rely on healthcare devises instead of needing a relative or a friend to stop by often to provide them with basic medical care. Companion robots or digital healthcare devices can help reduce expensive medical care. Kambria offers its open innovation platform for developers to work together and collaborate in creating healthcare solutions.

Concluding remarks

While there is no publicly released information yet about the amount of funds raised in the presale, it is sufficient to say with all the well-known institutional investors that are backing this project, they have raised enough funds to continue the development of the Kambria platform. They are ahead of schedule on their roadmap and they are working on innovative robotics and AI solutions that will make our lives easier in the future.

Recently Kambria had a visit from the head of Huobi Global’s Ecosystem Fund who was very impressed by the project. They talked about a collaboration. I hope their collaboration includes KAT tokens being listed on the exchange because that will be a big step towards securing and improving the value capture part of the project.

I want to finish this article with an important quote from the Kambria team. I personally hope they succeed in what they aim to do:

Kambria believes that a combination of reduced costs, cutting-edge technologies, and swift delivery will spur rapid adoption of the Kambria Platform by companies, developers, and manufacturers. This cycle of innovation will drive the next wave of technological advances that will provide value for people across the world.- Kambria Network
