Afterall Bitcoin was supposed to be the alternative.
In my younger years fiat was the alternative over credit card or bank cards which could be traced. Trademen would give one price for cash payments and another for trace-able transactions. Just because the cash was issued by the man did not mean it could not be used in the alternative economy; be that trademens or drugs.
Ha! Yes, a great point and even now cash can still give us that anonymity and help us out, which is why it is so important we do our best to preserve it. But as I'm sure you know the financial establishment want rid of cash, I just hope they don't succeed.
By the way cheques were great for some anonymity. All the bank statements would reveal is a cheque number and amount, and you were not obliged to write the payee on the cheque book stub! Great for frustrating the endeavours of snooping eyes!
