Tips to keep your crypto-currencies safe.

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

This is my first post on the blog and I hope you like it and if you do not like it, at least do not leave me an ugly comment.

I will not put the steps in order because the truth would not know how to place them, but we are going to what is important ...

Point # 1 Do not connect to any WI-FI network.

First of all I recommend not using the free Wi-Fi that some establishments offer you or if you are going to do it, try to connect through a VPN.

Why? Because you honestly do not know what kind of person is the owner of the network and do not know what kind of person are those who connect to the same network as you, both can be normal people or can be the kind of people who seek to take advantage of such connection intercepting network traffic, falsifying pages (phishing), etc, and without your knowing you are removing all users, emails, passwords, the card number of your BTC etc.

Does the VPN make me immune?
The answer is NO, but it makes things harder for the attacker and keeps you a bit more secure, for this in VPN I recommend a long password, to complicate a brute force attack.

Point # 2 Do not share emails, usernames, and other.

Do not share with anyone (it's an exaggeration but I recommend it, the fewer security holes are better) the emails, the names of users that you have registered in important pages and where you have significant amounts of crypto-coins, this goes more the youtubers that make videos and this kind of things that by neglect let see their emails or usernames, that could lead to brute force attacks or any other attack. It is also important to share phone numbers in social networks.

How to avoid it or reduce the risk?
Placing long passwords of more than 12 characters including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols and you know, doing all this complicates one or another attack.

Point # 3 Authenticated 2 Factors

2fa.jpg

For what you most want to activate the 2-factor authentication, this should be in my opinion mandatory for each account, if you want to know more the other day I saw a post about it in this blog and it seemed good just a matter of looking for it. PS: although of course if you're the target of a cyber-criminal with lots of knowledge, it's hard to escape: v

Point # 4 Complaints to pages of crypto-coins.

reclamos.jpg

Any complaint to any page for problems either for funds or not being able to access your account do not publish, what do I mean by this? Do not post it or tag the page on facebook, twitter or any other, we already have a case in which they emptied a coinbase account if not bad memory by an innocent twitt (the cyber-offender to find out about this problem at the beginning of session was put to work and was made to go through the affected person getting access to the account and taking everything) if you want you can investigate more about the case.

Point # 5 Publish Credit or Debit Cards.

tarjrta.jpg

As excited as you are to have received your debit card for BTC or other crypto-currency do not take pictures and upload them to social networks (do not take pictures), I know what I am saying is the most obvious but believe me there are people who do it and publish it (these are gold for the carders) if you do not complain after having made purchases you do not remember.

Point # 6 Do not open unknown links and delete cookies and browsing history.

phishing.jpg

This I think most already knows but it is worth repeating it, do not open links of unknown or suspicious pages since virus infections can occur at the time of opening a link even if you do not download anything (or phishing attacks), delete your browsing history and cookies regularly if you store emails and passwords in the browser because you can easily steal stored passwords and more, in case your system is operated by a cybe-delinquent will not be able to take information that gives them access to your important accounts (Wallets, exchange, etc).
Recently cases like those of Xapo.

Point # 7 By registering on a new page…

anotar en papel.jpg

When you register in a new page I recommend you write down on a paper, notebook or any other side that is tangible your email addresses, passwords, usernames, and you know, all that;) and that you keep it in a safe place where only you have access,
Why not in a digital document?
For the same reason, if your laptop is operated by outsiders can not take "great thing" if you save documents on the computer but physically.

Point # 8 Register in Scam pages

scam.jpg

Last but not least, I personally recommend that when you register on a page that you suppose is SCAM or it looks like it, you do it with an email that is not the one you use regularly but rather is a special one for that page or in general for pages of this type, I recommend this because it has happened to me to register in this type of pages with "fake" emails shortly after I can not access the emails, how strange is that? Apart from that there are several people who comment the same and even that wallets linked to the emails with which they are registered have been emptied.

Well, I think this has been all on my part, I hope it will work for you and you will say that you think so,
And remember, AN IDEA OF OPINIONS IS ENRICHED.
