While the development lately hasn't looked too encouraging, the media lives it own life and cryptocurrency lives its own life. Cryptocurrencies thrived before they got massive media coverage, and while the media made a temporary sandcastle of the price, I don't think the situation has worsened significantly. People who used them before and believed in it still mostly do so. It doesn't seem long ago that I thought Bitcoin could never move above $5000. The only reason we're not feeling encouraged is because we compare today's prices with the prices which were present when 50% of investors didn't understand the technology they were buying into. It will be exciting to see if the pump of November and December is an indication of cryptos' future potential or if it marked a ceiling. Regardless, I keep seeing people using cryptocurrencies for value transfer, I keep seeing people who consider it their preferred media of value storage and we all keep seeing more or less great things being built around it.

I will agree that the media have played a very big role in all this. But do not forget that they usually serve state interests as well as banking and their target references are mainly to damage the whole idea of crypto and a scenario of a society that no longer needs banks etc. What we definitely need is patience
True!
