Zcash votes against the introduction of ASIC resistance

in #bitcoin7 years ago

While Zcash (ZEC) was successfully completing its hard fork , planning for the future of anonymous cryptocurrency continues. Among the important decisions made in the past few days, a vote was held to find out whether developers should focus on ASIC mining resistance . The community finally decided 45 votes to 19 that it was not a priority.

This is not the first time that a cryptocurrency displays its hostility toward ASICs . Indeed, a few months ago, Monero teams were speaking on this subject , with Bitmain in the line of fire .

The problem of ASIC holds in many ways , however, one of the major concerns of technology remains its price. And, since the price is so high, only the " richest " can afford to accumulate hashpower, putting the least wealthy miners out of the race.

If no frontal attack is planned against the ASIC , Zcash teams are not fooled, and will still find other solutions to this problem . For example, the search for a long-term solution - more efficient thermodynamic consensus algorithms in particular - got a positive vote from the community (38 votes against 26). Among these long-term solutions is also the study and the creation of " open-source mining equipment ".

At the Zcon0 conference, members of the Zcash Company still hinted that they would define their ASIC position more clearly in October, shortly before the highly anticipated Sapling update .

But, for now, if you mine the ZEC with an ASIC ... Business as usual !
