FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) makes people rethink the investments they made to be not true or not invest at all. FUD is meant to stop you from learning and understanding on your own. From my own experience in investing in Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies it's been a ton of up's and down's and if FUD took over my judgement I would have lost most of my holdings.
Don't get me wrong sometimes there's a writing on the wall to move out of a position and move on. Yes crypto-currencies are still relatively speculative and some coins or tokens will fail. If you believe in the technology and the project there's no need for emotional decisions. Crypto-currencies may drop 30 to 50 percent in the day! If you have a weak hand there's no way you could survive. Just HODL! Everytime Bitcoin drops in price it recovered and pass the previous high.
There different types of FUD lets go over a few.
Biased FUD
Biased FUD usually makes relative arguments with a coin, bring up old resolved issues in the past, have evidence based on personal opinion. This type of FUD roots from someone that is invested in a coin and tries to intentionally sink it's competitor.
Baseless FUD
Baseless FUD is when they're not making a legitimate argument. Making FUD with no evidence but new investors have no clue and usually fall for this. For example, saying Bitcoin was invented by the CIA without any evidence whatsoever.
Fair FUD
Fair FUD raises factual arguments that are free from bias. Examples of this could be "Bitcoin has high transactions fees" or "Ripple is centralized and has total control over its coins."
FUD give me the best opportunity to buy in cheap and have the best chance for big gains. I learned not to follow trends and do the opposite. "When people are fearful be greedy and when people are greedy be fearful" is my investing mojo lol.
