A new foundation dedicated to promoting the development of the Bitcoin ecosystem was launched on September 23 as part of the Bitcoin Honeybadger conference held in Riga, Latvia.

The new organization is called Foundation B, and is the result of the contributions of some companies and personalities linked to the bitcoiner community, such as Francis Pouliot, Trezor, WhalePanda, Elizabeth Stark, Adam Back, Giacomo Zucco, Alena Vranova, Hodl Hodl, Alex Petrov and Jameson Lopp, among others.

The creation of the B Foundation was announced through a message posted on an account created on Twitter, which indicates that more announcements will soon be made with details about the new organization, including the design and content of its website.

Giacomo Zucco, CEO of BHBnetwork, indicated that the idea of creating this self-financed organization had been under consideration for about a year, with the goal of supporting the development and training efforts on the cryptocurrency, as well as favoring investment in business, talent and education.

Likewise, the exchange house Hodl Hodl expressed being happy to be part of a moment that qualified as historic. While Jameson Lopp outlined some differences between the new organization and Bitcoin Foundation, pointing out, in response to questions from one of his followers, that Foundation B will not be a membership-based organization, and will have a much more limited focus to help drive the Bitcoin development.

                        POLTRY WITHIN THE BITCOINER COMMUNITY

From this announcement arises a controversy in the bitcoiner community regarding the B Foundation, with some people demonstrating in favor and others against the initiative. On this, in some tweets published in response to the information published by the promoters of the foundation, they state that the project is an attempt at centralization.

In this line of ideas, Rodolfo Novak, founder of Coinkite, a platform dedicated to the development of applications, and administration of funds and Bitcoin payments, said that the cryptoactive has no official representation, noting that the Bitcoin autoimmune system is activated in any attempt to centralization, even if it is accidental and / or well intentioned.

Novak promotes a critical position towards the foundation. An idea that is supported by other bitcoiners, which respond to the tweet, as does a follower identified as @piratebeachbum, who stated that the promoters of the idea should devote themselves only to sponsoring developers, investigating, educating, providing resources and defending themselves for their account, financing everything with your own money. Something that, in his opinion, would be less political and probably less divisive.

Meanwhile, another follower, named @ BitcoinErrorLog, said there is nothing wrong with people organizing to help Bitcoin, but thinks that things get difficult when people want to try to "represent" it. The questions also mention that the promoters are recognized personalities in the community, who seek to become representatives of the cryptoactive.

In response to these approaches, Zucco states that, in his case, he is doing the same with BHBnetwork for years, although the difference lies in the size and number of "celebrities" involved, as well as being a foundation instead of an association. , and the place is different. Consequently, he asks the opponents, in the form of irony, about which of these ideas is the most risky.

Beyond the controversy, we will have to wait for details about the functioning, organization and purposes of this new foundation to establish clearer differences with other similar entities, such as the Bitcoin Foundation, which was created in 2012 with the purpose of promoting the use of of the cryptoactive for the benefit of users around the world. It is mainly financed through donations from companies related to this technology and the members of its board are divided into three categories: founders, members of the industry and individual members. In June 2016 Llew Claasen was appointed as Executive Director.
