Article in 'The Economist'

An article in 'The Economist' mentions 'proof of stake' but doesn't use 'delegated' ... (a verb).
I want to ask the community if 'Proof of Stake' is any different when it is not delegated?
I also want to ask the knowledgeable here if delegated proof of stake is set to overtake 'proof of work' as conjectured by this writer for the news magazine? Perhaps as a rider on that last question, as Dan Larimer is credited with having created the notion of 'delegated proof of stake', did the writer of the article describe the notion well enough?
I suppose this will have something to do with reviewing various EOS white papers ...
We are all a bit tired now ... maybe.
