World Cup May Increase Bitcoin Use

in #bitcoin8 years ago

We are getting close to the world cup it is only a couple of weeks away. And people around the world are going to be gathering to watch the matches. People are ready to spend money in the city and some of it may be bitcoin. According to this article a lot of hotels will be accepting bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin from their customers. Hopefully this will lead to a nice push in the use of the coin.

Though I do not know if we need to have bitcoin used a currency. There are arguements that it needs to be used to have value but I do not agree with that. It is the equivalent of gold and no one accepts gold in stores. I see gold more as an asset and mainly as a way to exchange other alts for fiat, which is going to be very important in the years to come as the dapps start to be released. But hey the more uses it has the better.

And it is cool to see that bitcoin can always be an option if needed anywhere in the world.

While I agree with your post and you make good remarks, I think it's essential for bitcoin to have more uses I agree that is like gold but it if people start giving it real-life uses the coin is just going to get that much stronger, since there will be a normal supply and demand of the coin, I don't think it's a negative to use it as a currency, I think it can only bring positives.

Thank you for sharing the information with us, people will often find uses for the cryptocurrencies and that is a good thing.

Well, that's a good place to start from. If a good number of hotels and service providers accepts Cryptos and it works for them then it might turn into a long term currency.

But then comes the question, do we need Bitcoin as a currency or a store of value.

I totally hope this is the case. This is a major push towards mass adoption of cryptocurrencies. I think the big threat to mass adoption is taxation. I don't think govt will like the idea of mechants and hoteliere using cryptos if they can't increase their tax revenues.

I never thought about it in this way but this could be awesome. If the hotels are accepting cryptos then for a traveler this could be really convenient.

If we look at the number of international events in this world, we can actually just have a coin for it. The idea being that this coin centers around the needs of the people traveling and visiting events like the football world cup. The services can include buying tickets, hotel reservations, finding decent spots to park, car rentals, travel tickets, booking guest rooms and staying with locals, reviews, sports bars, etc....

All this customized for the place where the event is happening

Who else is crazy excited for this world cup? who do you guys think takes it: Belgium, Argentina, Germany, Brazil? I'm sure a lot of food stands and hotels will be accepting crypto.

Anything that makes these events have people spend their money any easier will draw in attention. I think that Bitcoin being used and advertised is a good thing for Crypto as a whole for the masses to see that it can be a more convenient alternative to fiat... especially when travelling to foreign lands! This could kick off a nice Crypto boost for the summer. I didn't even consider this... good post!

If you haven't checked it out yet, Blocktrades is sponsering a 2000 SBD World Cup contest to pick the winners/losers/ and ties. Should be a lot of fun. Thought you may be interested @whatageek if you didn't already know! =)
