BitShares is a popular DEX (Decentralized Exchange) that you may have heard about.

Back in 2014, Dan Larimer (@dan) built BitShares, and released the underlying framework known as Graphene into the wild. Steemit was also built on top of Graphene, and both Steemit and BitShares enjoy powerful features and fast transaction times due to how it uses resilient delegated proof of stake (DPoS) technology.

For developers, BitShares is an opportunity to help build the world's best decentralized exchange AND get paid for it. BitShares has a feature called worker proposals, which lets the community approve/reject funding for projects to improve the BitShares ecosystem.

One of these worker proposals is the BitShares UI project, led by @billbutler, which is responsible for building and improving the DEX. Everyone is welcome to add issues, bugs, and feature requests, and developers/web designers can pick up tasks they are interested in working on.

The BitShares app uses React JS and node. If you're a developer and haven't used these before, it's an excellent opportunity to get paid to learn a new language!

Each task in the UI project has an estimate (in hours) of how long we think it might take to get done. If you complete a task, developers are paid out at $125/hour, and you'll get paid in bitUSD directly into your BitShares account at the end of the sprint.

If you're interested in helping out, check out the current milestones. If you find one you like, and you have think you'll have time to finish it before the end of the 2-week sprint, leave a comment such as "I'd like to claim this task". If you want to explore the code first, simply clone the git repository to your local computer, and follow the "Getting Started" directions on the BitShares UI readme.

If you have questions, leave a comment!

Bitshares should pick up a lot more traction once the UI gets improved.

We're hoping to add more funding during the next worker cycle to pick up some UX designers.

interesting...

OK, I'm hearing about this for the first time

Great! If you are or know any developers looking for work on the side, you can now consider directing them to BitShares! 😄
