Do all lives matter?

in #black8 years ago

We know all lives matter. That goes without saying. However that doesn't mean that all lives are treated equal. Nor does it mean that all lives are seen that way. This is what many don't get. Or see. Being on Facebook today, I briefly took a glimpse at a Black Lives matter demonstration taking place somewhere (I didn't look to see where it was for there are many protests going on today) that was being covered live by CNN. Before I could check it out, I took another moment to read some of the comments being left by some, and I was appalled by the hate of so many.  The comments made were cruel and based on hatred. "Get a job losers" was one. "Racists" was another. "All lives matter." Okay so that one I could understand even if it's one based on misunderstanding.  Others I won't repeat for they are not worth repeating.

Now I can understand that not everyone will agree with this movement. It's their right. However, why the hate? This movement is not based on hate. Black Lives Matter is not saying that their lives are more important than anyone else's. They are only saying that their lives matter too. Because their lives are not treated like they matter. Agree with that or not, but there are many reasons to believe that and not only because of the share of police killings. In fact the hatred of President Obama so much of it based on racial prejudice and hate has been enough evidence to me that racial hate is still alive and well in America. The hate of this president has been nothing short of shameful. The hate I'm seeing of this movement is the same way. To disagree is one thing, but to hate is another. When you have to resort to name calling, and to constant insults that is hatred.

But perhaps I'm digressing a little. After all the Black Lives movement has been protesting against the police brutality and killings against black Americans which is terribly distressing. But what's been disturbing is the way the movement has been unfairly judged by others. And with hate. Of course that doesn't mean that this movement hasn't been wrong, at times. Some for their protests like blocking traffic for example is not something I can fully agree on. I agree with their right to protest yes, but blocking traffic is not fair to those trying to get work. And of course the killing of police is wrong, as well as any act of violence being committed, (including rioting) but from the very beginning acts of violence were denounced by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Unfortunately,  the antagonists refuse to see that. Imagine there are even memes comparing this movement to the KKK. The Black Lives Matter is a hate group. Even politicians have said this. Where is the justification for such comparisons? While some of their protests have turned violent that was not the intentions of the BLM leaders who quickly denounced the violence. I understand how upsetting this can be, but it can be just as upsetting to hear of another police shooting, and more upsetting when people refuse to keep an open mind to it to begin with. This has been one of the biggest problems with the judgment of the Black lives movement. It's been the harsh criticism, the hatred, they show that is really no better than the hate they accuse the movement of having. I know a lot can be based on ignorance as so much hate can be on both sides.

And while all lives matter, indeed we need to keep in mind that not all lives are treated equal. Until they are this is why this movement exists.

Beautifully written. I went to the City Hall Council meeting for houston yesterday to tell them that they couldn't be the source of our problem and give us a solution. I love how you clarified though. I clarified BLM from the Ma'at platform of what it means to be black.

I upvoted you.
