Yeah, I totally get what you mean. We had a small kitchen fire once and even though it didn’t spread, the smoke damage was a nightmare. One thing I learned is to keep an updated inventory of your valuables, just in case you ever need to deal with insurance. Also, things like installing ember-resistant vents and making sure your gutters are always clean can really make a difference. If you ever end up needing to file a claim (hopefully not, but you never know in CA), you might want to check out fire claims adjuster. They helped my cousin navigate the process when his garage burned down last year. I hope none of us ever need that, but it’s good info to have just in case.
