This much I know. I'm no fan of American police having grown up there. Most of them just try to scare and intimidate people. As far as defunding and changing them. People better have a plan for what they want for change or we'll end up with Robocop. Don't expect them to change for the better on their own. They very well may just use change to increase their power if there is no plan.
That's exactly my point. It is up to the people to decide how they change. It certainly must not be left up to them. An addiction always tries to convince you that all you need is more of the addictive substance. White America is addicted to cops, and the illusion of safety they evoke for some. We have to come up with a better way of addressing human vulnerability, fallibility, and rehabilitation.
