AFAIK, many witnesses tried to communicate with Sun before the soft fork, but he didn’t respond. Hard to have “more talks” if one side isn’t willing to talk.

That's what the witnesses said. I don't think they were wrong to do the soft fork and it wouldn't surprise me if Justin planned this takeover from the start. I just don't get how a social media platform that's anti-censorship can work with Chinese owners? I like the Chinese people, I'm just not a fan of the way they can't say what they want about certain things.
