Introducing rewarding blockchain solution for charitable donations

Charity is an integral part of what makes us human, and a virtue cherished by all cultures around the world. Nearly one third of all people worldwide donate to charities and one quarter volunteer every year. We have excellent charitable organizations to thank for that and their importance in our society is immense. In fact, they are such a crucial part of our society because they take care of the people, animals and environments that have been forgotten by the governments and have no one else to turn to. As Anne Frank would say:

“No one has ever become poor by giving.”
But people are still concerned about how the operational side of charity is handled. First of all, nobody wants to pay for administrative and marketing overhead, because money spent there is money lost. Secondly, donating often doesn’t give you the sense that you are making a difference. And last, but not least, charities are businesses that employ people, have their own agendas, and frauds are very hard to detect. The existing process is centralized and rigid, difficult to supervise and full of overhead costs. We want to make it scalable and efficient.

Our idea with the CHERR.IO platform is to offer a B2B (business-to-business) platform to the charity organizations with the intent of optimizing their operation, not replacing them with something entirely new. The main objectives that we set ourselves to achieve are expanding their outreach (crypto and non-crypto), increasing transparency, lowering costs and reinforcing the trust of the donors. To achieve all this, we want to rethink the existing approach to raising funds. The current one is very centralized around the charitable organisations that take care of everything from the initial identification of people in need to fundraising and the actual delivery of help. We want to offload at least a part of the whole effort to the community to enable charities to do what they do the best: organising actual help. Fundraising and advertising are the parts that we envision CHERR.IO platform to do.

Important part of our solution is to engage our community to do the heavy lifting in regard to spreading the awareness about the charitable campaigns. Traditional forms of advertising are costly and inefficient in comparison to the social media campaigns, because people simply trust other people more than they trust the companies. CHERR.IO community members will be rewarded for their help via a mechanism we call Proof of Charity. Help is considered to be sharing posts on social media, bringing in new members, verifying campaigns, etc. With this mechanism we aim to grow our community and spread awareness more efficiently and at a much lower and predictable cost.

CHERR.IO platform is designed on top of Ethereum blockchain. In addition to the much needed traceability and auditability of all transactions, we will use its smart contracts to support certain processes. One of them is the voting mechanism that will give donors the power to vote for campaigns, decide where the emergency pool funds should go to, rate the organization, verify the documentation to release funds to the beneficiary, etc.
