Hyperledger Fabric, which is part of the Hyperledger Project and hosted by The Linux Foundation is a blockchain framework implementation which was created to serve as a foundation for developing blockchain applications, solutions and products.
Brian Behlendorf, Hyperledger’s Executive Director commented on the release of Hyperledger Fabric that it would power a range of products and services. It was the first of eight Hyperledger projects and also the first to become active after incubation. In total, 159 engineers from 28 organizations contributed to bringing the project to life.
The aim of these efforts is to create common distributed ledger technology which can then allow businesses and organizations to build and run platforms, applications and hardware systems which are tailored to their industries and which support business transactions.
Key features:
Channels for sharing confidential information
Ordering Service delivers transactions consistently to peers in the network
Endorsement policies for transactions
CouchDB world state supports wide range of queries
Bring-your-own Membership Service Provider (MSP)
In addition to these features, Hyperledger Fabric utilizes container technology in order to host smart contracts which they call “chain code” which make up the application logic of the system. It also allows such components as consensus and membership services to be easily activated through plug-and-play.
With this range of functionality, Hyperledger Fabric has established a solid foundation upon which its community can help it continue to evolve through further iterations as technology in multiple industries advances and adopts blockchain more widely.
