Blockchains and the Forks

in #blockchain8 years ago

Hello, comunity!

I started following the cryptocurrency scene just a couple of months ago and I'm just a small and naive player at this moment. Nevertheless, I would like to share a thought about the recently fork that took place at the Bitcoin blockchain.

Just after the hard fork, the new coin has begun a strong escalade, reaching approximately US$ 1,000.00. Then the coin lost almost all this value and the original Bitcoin recovered its track upward. So the people that have believed the new coin would surpass its father and invested too much money on it had great losses. At the end, the coin that is carried by the stronger community and has better fundamentals is the one that will survive.

This event makes me imagine that future forks will become more harmless as time goes on since the market will learn from past experiences and the decisions will become more rational about which coin to choose. The maximum appreciation as well as the time interval between the fork and the instant of this maximum appreciation tend to diminish over time. The worse coin will disappear faster and faster.

Therefore I won't see a fork as a big problem in the long run whatever the crypto considered. In particular, the Ethereum fork predicted to occur at some time when PoS will be adopted will have much lower impact on the main blockchain than that of Bitcoin. Maybe, would be interesting if someone analyzes the cases of forks and their implications to the resulting blockchains and their asset values.

I'd like to know from somebody more experienced on the subject whether this observations make any sense.

Bye!
