Introduction and Problem Statement:
The robotics industry is one that has been of great importance to human and human activities. Robots, which are also machines, have proved to be a better substitute to human labour in terms of speed of delivery, accuracy, neatness, quality of the job done, productivity and many other factors and thus led to its massive adoption in different industries. Robots are virtually found in complex industries such as manufacturing, automobile, textile, agriculture and even food processing industries only mention a few.

The mass adoption of robots is due to the technological advancements in computing and artificial intelligence. Robots were first programmed to perform certain functions but later on, they were designed such that they have the ability to reason and function almost independently. Recent designs of robots have sensors that enable them to relate to the real world and as such, make them feel as though they are part of it.

Although robots have found their way into most of man’s important activities such as manufacturing, agriculture, automobile and so on, efforts to adopt them to the home for domestic purposes have proved abortive due to many factors surrounding it. One of the factors which have impeded the adoption of robots for domestic purposes is the expensive nature of the processes involved in developing robots. Most of the processes involved in developing robots are usually very expensive and as such, can only be afforded by big firms whose activities can cover up for the expensive price tags these robots carry. Hence, only small robots programmed to carry out small functions are used. Also, lack of good interface interaction between layers of software, electrical and mechanical systems posses a big hindrance to the development. Furthermore, there are bottlenecks in the design, build and test cycle which usually result in higher costs, time, and effort expended in the design of robots which discourage their adoption for domestic purposes.
