Monetization of networks and networks based on blockchain

in #blockchain5 years ago (edited)

Social networks currently occupy a very important place in the lives of many people, they have become a communicational reference of the modern world.

It is very difficult to find today, a person of any generation that does not manage a facebook, twitter or instagram account, everyone wants and needs to be connected either to communicate effectively with friends and family or simply to know news of world events and be up to date with the innovation of an increasingly globalized world.

Whatever the reason, there is always a good excuse to be connected to the Internet and more specifically to some social network of the many that exist today.

Source

In recent years, people with accounts in social networks have tried to monetize their work, content creators, celebrities of the artistic medium, musicians, chefs, bloggers, etc.

All try to become Influencers some more successful than others, but all behind the same goal, get income based on the influence they have in some social group which have become a reference and have managed to accumulate a considerable number of followers.

Essentially, we can define "social network" as a platform on the Internet that we access through an explorer or application, to share interests or activities in general, allowing the exchange of almost any type of data, privately or publicly.

Problem / Solution

From my point of view, the big problem when it comes to monetizing our content in any of the most used networks on the planet such as facebook or twitter is the large number of followers that must have an account, a very difficult task when it comes to an ordinary person who, although he has a special charisma, it becomes very difficult to attract such a large following.

In my opinion, and in second place is the fact of creating attractive content for that group of followers in such a way that they remain interested to achieve a traffic constantly, to then advertise a company or service provider that is interested in your services.

Finally, I think one of the most difficult barriers to overcome is competition, as I get my profile, my account or my blog to stand out from a sea of similar content that is generated every day, for me it is something very demanding that requires a lot of time and effort.

The great idea!

With the implementation of Blockchain technology and the creation of cryptocurrencies, social networks based on Blockchain appear on the scene, which in my opinion are the solution to the problem of monetization of content for many (including myself), creating a historical precedent in the that refers to social networks, blogs and microblogging.

The decentralized social networks based on Bolckchain are here to stay and little by little they are positioned in the preference of the users for their reward system that are very attractive for the creators of contents.

Until today there are many projects of this nature that have been launched and I will share with you some of these:

Steemit

First of all this Steemit, I think it's the most popular and reliable platform at the moment, devised in 2016 by Ned Scott and Dan Larimer, creator of Bitshares, a decentralized reward platform It combines the creation of content, the interaction between users and the use of the cryptocurrency called Steem.

In this way the rewards (steem) work as points that can be exchanged for other tokens, providing purchasing power to access various services related to the network, even converting them through the exchange in fiat money. Anybody, anywhere in the world, can have access to the platform and receive payments for its contents.

Sapien

Sapienfocuses on combating false news on the Internet.

Created in 2017 by Robert Giometti and Ankit Bhatia, current CEO, on its website is described as a Web 3.0 social news platform that offers users control over their data, a reward to content creators and a fight against false news Built on the chain of Ethereum blocks.

OnG.social

This network, in full development since 2017, is executed in two blockchain, Ethereum and Waves, and provides ease of control for the construction of communities and social interaction with rewards in cryptocurrencies. In this way, like the other decentralized networks already mentioned, the plan is for the users' effort to be monetized within the network and the publications are validated according to their impact, while their veracity is confirmed through the consensus of the community. OnG.social. That to mention only some of the existing ones.

More recently, platforms similar to steemit have been added to the list of users and their user interfaces such as Whaleshares WEKUand Chinese platform that is growing and rewarding users who already have accounts in steemit CBNT and register using this sCthNr code.

Conclusion

The list of platforms and social networks based on the Blockchain technology expands rapidly, trying to satisfy the demands and tastes of users around the world. While it is true that still the use of these networks we can not compare it with the most popular social networks such as: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram with 1,900, 328; 1,000 and 700 million users, respectively.

However, the rise of these new platforms continues its course of accelerated growth, gaining more and more followers and registering an increasing number of users, which leads us to consider the following questions:

What to expect from these Blockchain networks in the future? Will they become the new network-based economy? Will they surpass traditional networks?

Hi @fucho80,

Thanks for the memo and thanks for the link to comment on your exceptional blog post.

A great publication @fucho80. All of the social networks are unique in their own way in the looks, in the working pattern, in the parameters they offer to attract the innumerable number of online pepulation😀......!

I will be posting some content in FB and Twitter. Two days back, when I searched over the net, I found out a new decentralized network called "Minds-where minds gather" as a tagline. I got myself registered in it immediately, but I am yet to start posting in it, but did you know what happened?

To my astonishment, I got almost 9 notifications and all belong to the regular users of Minds.

The thing worth mentioning here is that we will normally subscribe to those users whose content we find interesting, but here peculiarly they subscribed me before I post any publication!

And I want to tell one more sour incident I encountered with FB. Almost all of us, I think will be getting our post promotion ads and had anyone tried it? If so, please tell me the result of your post promotion.

For me, the ad cost is given as Rs. 400/-. Utter waste. Nothing happened after the boost as I completely lost the amount invested. I wasn't given the option of selecting the areas where my ad has to be promoted. I just simply got fed up.

I am attaching a screenshot of the concerned FB ad. See the amount I spent and how much they utilied for promotion. Also this ad didn't run for the number of days it was intended to run.

I wasn't complaining, but I expected a lot from FB and as it didn't live up to my expectations, I was, more of like, DEJECTED!

Very good start friend ... This network you mention is based on blockchain?

For me, the ad cost is given as Rs. 400 / -. Utter waste. Nothing happened after the boost as I completely lost the amount invested. I was not given the option of selecting the areas where my ad has to be promoted. I just simply got fed up.

A very unpleasant experience, usually there are projects that are launched on which there is much expectation on the part of developers but then lose some interest in them and neglect the users.

Thanks for participating friend.

Thank you so much @fucho80 for your kind words.

I left FB well over a year ago now in favour of @steemit
I use mostly @partiko on my phone as I find it easy to use and navigate.
By far my favourite site was TSU where I met and interacted with many like minded people from around the world.
It was a big shock when one day it just disappeared leaving many users without a home.
I don't think steemit will go that way although it is far from easy to use at the moment.
Keeping up with people you are interested in following isn't always easy.
It would be good to have notifications when people you follow post a new article.
I will stick with this platform as I have invested my time and energy here as I did in TSU.
The future is looking good for the blockchain and crypto as a way not only to communicate but to make a little money in the way. Which is always helpful in a world where so many have so little.
Great article my friend thanks for bringing me to your post. Peace and Love 😁

Hello my dear @andyjem, thanks for joining this conversation.

I use mostly @partiko on my phone as I find it easy to use and navigate.

I do not have the opportunity to try this tool because I do not have a smart phone (in Venezuela it is very difficult) but I realize that many people use it and I am sure it makes it much easier.

Keeping up with people you are interested in following is not always easy.
It would be good to have notifications when people follow you post to a new article.

According to you, there are many things that steemit needs to improve, hopefully include a notification system that allows the user to be up to date with the community, very good observation.

The future is looking good for the blockchain and crypto as a way to communicate but to make a little money in the way. Which is always helpful in a world where so many have so little.

There are many advantages of this technology and I think it has a good future, I think we will have steemit for much longer, it would be good to see how it improves

Thanks for your excellent comment friend, take care.

you do not need a smart phone to use Partiko. however what you write on there will never go away. So in your Country. I would be careful.

Hello friend @marionbowes, thanks for visiting this post and leave your comment

you do not need a smartphone to use Partiko. However, what you write on there will never go away. So in your Country. I would be careful.

Is it really possible to use Partiko without a smart phone? A few weeks ago I asked a friend and he told me that it was an application only for mobile devices.

Thanks for your participation.
Take care.

yes.. for mobile devices. but a smart phone is a specific phone from apple. I have a Samsung and therefore I am able to use Partiko.

Ok, I understand for all these devices I knew them as smart phones, I did not know that it was specifically a device.

Thank you!

Sorry have to correct you there Marion at this time partiko don't have a PC program. So you have to use another program to use android apps called Bluestaks. Which uses huge amounts of memory so isn't Ideal.
People should not keep quiet if they have something to say. That's how tyrants come to power. Also whatever you use to post to steemit once on the blockchain it can never be removed.
How did I do. All questions read and answered 😉😁

Thank you very much friend @andyjem for the clarification. You have a lot of reason it is necessary to raise our voice to correct or condemn something that is wrong, that will help many people.

Thank you!

not so good. I said and I quote. You do not need a smart phone to use Partiko. I have a Samsung. A smart phone is an Apple Product. I never made mention about anything on a PC. Not once. Never talked about Bluestaks. Sure they can say what they want. People kill themselves in a terriost attack on airplanes too. If that is there thing. Say what they want and get killed, or thrown in jail or removed from their country. Sure. I forgot that is how many role.

Here is my idea @fucho80
Social media networks will not be gone, not ever. It will just change tru time, it will adopt to blockchain technology.

Problems experienced by users of current social media will still persist even on social media built upon blockchain, like low number of followers, low number interaction, low payout.

But these problems are far more an improvement from the current fb, twitter, instagram where centralized authority manages our data. Decentralization of networks will be the only first improvements of blockchain social media.

The only consolation to this fact is that, although the social media aspect can be a little improvement, but the tokens-cryptos attached to the blockchain have a good potential for investments, since these prices fluctuates heavily. Trading of tokens are a good means of earnings.

Not only that you earn from social interactions, but trading tokens will add to the value itself.
Still more beneficial that the current social media networks.

My dear @guruvaj, welcome and gracais for this great contribution.

Social media networks will not be gone, not ever. It will change moment, it will adopt blockchain technology.

Strongly agree, the conventional social networks will surely evolve and end up adopting this technology, always improving what we have now.

Decentralization of networks will be the only first improvements of blockchain social media.

I believe that decentralization will be improved first, but together with this will come many advantages including the native token of each chain, the security to manage your own funds and the innumerable possibilities of investment.

Trading of tokens are a good means of earnings.

That is friend! Again, agree that this is the future.

Take care.

@fucho80, Definitely everyone uses today's Technology and the tools and specially Social Media Tools but in my opinion more than good, Centralised Social Media brought more negative results.

But now times are changing and Decentralised Systems are working in a way, they are touching the true development points and that is financial empowerment and equal opportunities to grow and now this is happening.

Dear @chireerocks, thank you for joining this conversation, welcome friend.

New times brother, the technology is developing rapidly bringing with it many improvements. With this new generation of social networks based on blockchain, you really feel that you have equality and that you can get financial benefits from the time you spend.

The future brother!
Blessings!

Yes, Blockchain based social media platform is transforming the idea of Social Power and touching the real concerns and empowering those concerns. Have a great time ahead and stay blessed.

Thanks friend, equally for you.

Welcome and thank you so much.

To stay in touch with family and people close to me I would never use Facebook or Twitter, etc.
I have a mouth, we all have a phone and the only thing we use is WhatsApp.

At this moment it is useless to use something else, especially if I am the only one (Viber for example).

My children are not very interested in social media either.

I only have Facebook and later started with Twitter to contact organizations. It's cheaper this way plus they help you faster with a complaint!
By now many use WhatsApp too so I prefer that.

I do not share pictures, thoughts, ideas, etc on Facebook or Twitter, if it comes to it I find both boring and Facebook most of all.

CBNT is no fun because as a mobile blogger I can hardly write. The biggest part of the site I cannot see. So it is not a great substitute yet for Facebook nor twitter. It's the same with weku. At first it worked fine, but since weeks I am not able to login.

As long as these difficulties do exist and you have to pay to post people will not join the blockchain. It is too difficult.

Agree with you on this, but there are people like me who do not have a phone with the capabilities to use WhatsApp, we only have one PC and we have family and friends outside the country and we contact them through Facebook. However, I congratulate you for having these options.

As long as these difficulties do exist and you have to pay to post people will not join the blockchain. It is too difficult.

It is true that all these platforms right now have many deficiencies but we must remember that it is a relatively insipient technology and it supports many improvements, we hope that the developers of these sites will notice all this and apply the necessary corrective measures.

Thanks for your comment, it is always a pleasure for me to read a comment of yours.

Take care.

I have no computer, a bad and slow internet connection and the less family I have is broad as well except for my 2 youngest. We do not have a smartphone that long and it is our only option to stay in touch. A computer would not even be able to contact to the internet. In most cases I only have 2 or 3 G although I pay for 4.

Wooo, I understand, well I see that it is very difficult for you where you meet, things are similar around here but we do not strive to access the internet. Can you tell me where you live?

THANK YOU!

Great post and nicely presented. I think monetizing social networks is pretty tough and is a long term goal unless one is willing to invest in Ads.

I'm equally finding difficult to monitize my content on Steem, changing strategies from time to time but it is not always working.

About the blockchain social network, I do not know about CBNT and I will check it out.

Whaleshares is already a FAILURE. It was created to solve the flaws of Steem but today, it is more of a cross posting platform with lots of tokens that are mostly given out for discord show attendance.

Will they surpass traditional networks?

In all, I do not see any of these blockchain social media to surpass the likes of Facebook and the rest. If we may one someday see one, then I believe it will definitely be created from a perspective different from Steem and others that currently exist.

Thank you for a great piece of article.

Do have a great week!

According to you, I think that it is very difficult to overcome these networks right now and I do not know if they ever get it, but if the cryptography continues its ascent, we have to wait for the future.

Thanks for comment.

Many projects tap into this opportunity to build the next generation of social networks that reward for your effort. At the moment I explore Publish0x that has good potential and Steem that will continue growing at a rapid pace.

Hello my dear @chesatochi, thank you for reading and commenting on this publication.

Many projects tap into this opportunity to build the next generation of social networks that reward for your effort.

Right, it is creating many network alternatives that reward users what makes them more and more attractive, and as long as they continue to improve they will continue to grow and provide us with more opportunities

At the moment I explore Publish0x that has good potential and that will continue growing at a rapid pace.

Woo seems fine to me, so far I write on several platforms, I had not read about this you mention. Could you send me the link?

Take care

I think these blockchain networks will grow fast but never become as big as facebook or twitter but they can still get monetized by blockchain.

Example: I have monetized my Twitter account with SNAX. The reward isnt very high but you do get some small bucks. You can even get tipped if you use brave and become a certified author.

The present social networks are way more improved than Steem or Weku or Whaleshares or anything.
Great article as usual @fucho80. 😊

Dear @n1hal, thank you for reading this post and leave this valuable comment. You are welcome!

I think these blockchain networks will grow fast but never become as big as facebook or twitter but they can still get monetized by blockchain.

I appreciate your point of view, I think it is very difficult to overcome conventional networks there is a big gap still, but everything will depend on the improvements that can be introduced in blockchain.

You can even get tipped if you use brave and become a certified author.

I've used brave but it gets complicated, I do not know if it's because of the connection I have that is very slow.

The present social networks are way more improved than Steem or Weku or Whaleshares or anything.

There is still a big difference between networks but it is also true that many people who are using blockchain have decreased the use of facebook and twitter.

Thank you friend, great comment, very well received, take care of yourself.

Hello @fucho80,
I think that centralized social media as we have them today will at some point have to change their business model in order to keep up with the competition from decentralized social medias.

Given the fact that social media flourishes on the theory of 'Network Effect', once these centralized social media platforms happens to include a form of financial incentive to their existing business model or modify it a little bit to make it seem more decentralized to their massive user base, I don't think others (decentralized social medias) stand a chance at competing because most of this massive user base are not 'tech heads' and will sure love to remain with their familiar networks.

Worst case scenario; these newly 'decentralized - centralized' social media platform will just drive their competitors into oblivion my manipulating their tokens at the open market.

However, these are just my thoughts based on the available data before me! We all look forward to the events as they unfold...

Best regards,
Toni

Hello friend @straigttalk, thank you for composing your opinion about the proposed topic.

I think that centralized social media as we have them today will at some point have to change their business model in order to keep up with the competition from decentralized social medias.

Undoubtedly this will end up happening. However, these gosan social networks of an immense number of users who still get a lot of profit, so I think this will still take.

Take care and thank you for your contribution

Interesting question and article.

I do not think the vast majority of people care if a social network is placed on a block chain or on a traditional cloud-based storage system. What people care about is about being social, ease of use, and features to help them tell their personal stories.

Yes the idea of getting paid to tell your story is also fantastic, there are other ways to do this besides just giving a share of crypto. There could be revenue models that get built in. Imagine if Facebook paid you a fraction of a cent for every ad they displayed on your page when someone viewed it, or sort of like how the brave browser pays you to show you ads... I think I would take a lot of away from the development of crypto based social networks.

Moreover I think one of the reasons why block chain networks are growing is just because the revenue model. If you remove the revenue model, there are other platforms in place that have a wider user base and more developed with features and usability.

I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that steem has more going for it then just a social network and that's why I'm invested on the platform!

Hello dear @jacuzzi, thanks for coming, welcome once more. How are you?

Moreover I think one of the reasons why the chain of networks is growing is just because of the revenue model. If you remove the revenue model, there are other platforms in place that have a wider user base and more developed with features and usability.

In agreement! Obviously the main reason for the growth and income that you can achieve, that is why many of us are here (myself included). I must say that the discovery of this type of networks is helping us in Venezuela and that is very good for us.

I do not know what the future holds, but I know that I have more going for it then just a social network and that's why I'm invested on the platform!

Yes, it is very difficult to know what we will see later but while steem continues to improve, growing and giving us satisfactions I will also continue investing here.

Thanks friend, great contribution once more.

I think that Facebook is no longer as famous as before, now is more Instagram, Twitter is still among the best, Whatsapp, but everything depends on the trend of the public and also mobile applications.

The problem I see is that once published in a blockchain, it will never be deleted and it is necessary that a social network also has the opportunity to delete its content.

I suppose that in the near future social networks will use the blockchain only as a means of reward.

Thanks for sharing

Hello my dear @jadams2k18, welcome to the debate brother.

I think that Facebook is no longer as famous as before, now is more Instagram, Twitter is still among the best, Whatsapp, but everything depends on the trend of the public and also mobile applications.

Of course, there are many applications that facilitate the use of these networks and make them more attractive and efficient, there is a big gap between these networks and those based on blockchain

I suppose that in the near future social networks will use the blockchain only as a means of reward.

Well the rewards are what are bringing more users to blockchain, the idea of creating and being rewarded for it is very attractive.

Thank you brother for your great comment, all my respect for you

Dear @fucho80

I just had a chance to check out this old post and I must admit that it was surely interesting read. Great choice of topic.

Monetizing our work (content creating etc) is surely not an easy task. There is simply so many content creators out there and competing with them can be quite challenging.
