Full disclaimer, I’m not a sociologist nor do I play one of TV.
I’m been a blockchain enthusiast for a few years and the more I explore the blockchain philosophy, the more perplexed my viewpoint.
So I’m reading the book Block Chain Revolution by Don Tapscott and Alex Tapscott and of course the issue of trust is discussed. More specifically the idea of having a “canonical persona.” From the context, you can actually have several. A persona for business, a persona for family, and so forth. All of the personas serve limited functions as well as you control and monetize your own data. For example a part-time screenwriter can directly license his/her rights to a film producer all the while have another persona of a zookeeper trainer.
I don’t mind keeping different interest separate. After all we wear several hats, and tout many hyphens…author/speaker/entrepreneur/film producer. You get my point.
So the question is: With all of this celebrated transparency of the online ledger mixed with the privacy derived from the using different personas, how does that look?
Are we not meant to really know anyone on the blockchain? Is that a good thing?
Will we as a society evolve to where face to face meetings are really not necessary? Will that eliminate bias?
How about social skills? Will there be feelings that become obsolete? After all, how can you feel embarrassed or shy if you’re born into a world where everything about you is on the blockchain.
Yes, this may be years aways, or sooner than you think.
Thoughts?
