Just today I´ve read about a new Ethereum based Blockchain called "Datum", which aims to enable every single one of us to finally own all our Data instead of giving it away for free. In case they succeed it will be us again, the consumers, calling the shots about how our data is used and by whom.

To realize this great idea, the company created a Platform where users can store their data securely without anyone being able to access it without their permission. So none of your data will be given away anymore but instead you´ll be able to sell it to interested parties out there while receiving DATG tokens in return.

But that´s actually not the only possible use of the Datum Blockchain. It would as well enable any organization to keep sensitive data completely private and inaccessible to others. Health Data for example could be stored in a very secure way through the use of this Blockchain.

Just like Datum states it, I can only agree, that “the problem with the existing business models of data is that the ‘Digital You’ is something you do not own..."

Therefore nowadays it´s the big Data companies, who earn billions of Dollars by using the Data they collect from us for free. They don´t have to pay a single cent for using something that should belong to us and I´m very happy to hear that this might finally come to an end. It would be amazing to finally be able to decide whether our data is used and in case it is to receive some share of the profits.
