I'm on a mission to learn about A.I + Blockchain (and how you can learn faster too)

in #blockchain8 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemers,

It's been a hectic couple of weeks and I feel like I've learned more over the last month than the previous six. Much of that has to do with the fact that I have taken a learning deep-dive into two distinct technology: Crypto and A.I.

I have been fortunate to have mentors in each category, and both @susanne and @svk have been absolutely amazing people to talk to in order to understand what's happening in the Blockchain world. For A.I and have had the true pleasure of working alongside Radhika Dirks who is leading a Silicon Valley startup called Xlabs.ai (more on this in a later post). I feel like there is so much I don't understand, but a lot of things are also starting to dim. For now, the very best advice I can give anyone who wants to learn more about these emerging technologies, are the following:

1 - Read. Yes, I read alot and although it sometimes feels like I'm wasting time (i.e. should I be reading this, is this relevant, should I be doing something else), trying to understand a super complex topic that will become the next "super competence" will ultimately require some nuanced perspectives. Just keep reading. There are a few sources I track, like Reddit, Medium, different websites, and newsletters. Perhaps the best method of finding good content is tracking brilliant people, they tend to share. Another REALLY interesting site I'm finding a lot of valuable insights from right now is Refind. It's a new social sharing platform powered by blockchain and you can earn crypto by discovering good content.

2 - Write. Yes, try writing a blog about something and you'll quickly learn what you know, and what you don't know. I find that trying to explain something to other requires a deeper level of understanding and that forces you to go the extra mile. So, find your channel or a site that lets you fume your intellectual steam (like medium.com, steemit.com, etc). And as the (somewhat) growth hacker that I am, consider questions like: What sharing platform is very recent, where I can easily find a loyal audience? What platform will be relevant using considering my topic?

3 - Join the conversation. Today I'm a part of 1 Crypto FB groups, one physical Crypto group, one Crypto Messenger thread and two A.I groups. I don't necessarily have the technical wisdom and know-how to know everything people are talking about, but you pick up a helluva lot of jargon that you won't find elsewhere and you learn by observing.

4 - Be the conversation - Create a forum, discussion or a Podcast. If you're seriously want to learn, go beyond just reading and writing. Become the voice and ask questions. A lot of questions. Then, there are seriously no limit to where your new knowledge may take you. You can find my contribution in this space here: www.remotivationpodcast.com

I will end this post with one cool quote from Radhika who said the following when asked why Ethics and Moral always came into question with A.I. She simply stated: "Well think about it, if technology is applied science then science is applied philiosphy."

Have an A.I day
