To reach this stratovolcano requires defeating more than four thousand meters above sea level. It is not a piece of cake. Climbing this volcanic mountain demands determination. Most people decide to accomplish this mission in 2 days. Tempting but the biggest unknown is if you gonna be greeted by mellow sunrise or cloudy mist. Better do it at once, particularly when you when having a flight back in 3 days four hundred kilometers away from here in another country and still many destinations on the bucket list. The last part could be very tricky. Discerning the easiest way can be treacherous. The necessity to face such a steep wall! I am still wondering how we have managed without any rope and protection. Finally, the goal achieved, summit reached. Standing four thousand two hundred two meters above the sea level in western Guatemala in San Marcos province. Visibility up to few meters. One of the thickest and dense fogs I have ever seen. Feels like am dissolving in the bowl of milk. The sense of fulfillment and self-confidence intertwines with disappointment caused by visibility range. Rest at the top. Eating cold and moist french fries prepared by kind, old Guatemalan countrywoman down in the hill. The efficiency of enhancing endurance to get prepared for descent quite low, haha. Unexpected brightening of the sky! Wow! Oustanding view. The sunny perspective of wide stretching mountain range and volcano's crater at your fingertips - breathtaking. Looking for not such a precipitous return way was a real puzzle. The ending in the forest swift and decisive. Forced jogging with the remainder of the power accomplished exactly when the sun went down. Mission completed. That´s how we do.
