It was a temperate day, so I set up to do some outdoor maintenance. The plan was to wash down a window frame and paint it. I grab my (new!) phone, set up a podcast, slip the earplugs in, grab a broom and start dusting.
Over the podcast, I could hear something... buzzing.
Loud buzzing.
Lots of loud buzzing.
So I turned around, looked behind me, then quickly and quietly stepped back in the door and shut it behind me.
Here is the view through the window:
And the next window:
For some unfathomable reason, the bees had some sort of obsession with that corner of the house. I'm wondering if a migrating queen has crawled into a crack somewhere. At one stage, bees were appearing inside the window. Not sure how they were doing it, but the house is moderately old (built in the mid-1970s); there are lots of gaps and movement.
It's all quiet out there now, we'll just have to see if they reappear in the morning.
Eep! Any nearby local hives swarming?
Not that I've seen, but it is swarming season and this one has turned into a proper swarm. See the new post
