The humble are first of all already blessed because they are meek!
And Jesus says "Blessed are the meek......"
Life can be counterintuitive sometimes cuz many people think their ego will get there somewhere but humility will not. This has proven to be false a number of times. And also there is a fine line between a healthy ego and an unhealthy one according to @surfermarly
