RE: In Love with Fine Things & The Neighborhood - FASHION ART

in #bloglast year

So good to hear from you and thank you, as always, for your mindful eye and ability to delve into the depth of the subject matter. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it as a pleasant ride.

Right, I don't want to just make a pair of trousers or a dress so that I have something to wear, because actually I have enough clothes to choose from. Yes, it is equal to costuming, so it is also a kind of theatrical performance. That is one aspect, the other is the activity in and of itself. It takes time and concentration, it provides problems to solve and the process itself gives learning and experiential enrichment. This counts for the trousers more than for the dress.

I like your analogy with architecture very much, it shows also how you think about design when you enter a space or see a performance of skills.

Fashion is also always much more than just an expression of personal taste, I think, it also picks up on what wants to be expressed socially elsewhere. A certain fashion that many follow is necessary for there to be an anti-fashion. The one contrasts with the other. Those who go against the trend are saying that they do not want to submit to the dictates and that they find their own ideas important and interesting. At the moment, however, I don't even know what exactly the trend is, because I don't go out that much anymore and the street scene doesn't provide any particular information about what "people are wearing at the moment". There seems to be a certain understatement, a kind of modesty, not to attract too much attention with the way one dresses. In winter it's difficult anyway, because when it's cold as fuck, functional clothing is still the best. LOL

Since I've been sewing myself, I've lost all fun in buying clothes. I used to love shopping, but now I just see the clothes racks as a source of inspiration for what I could make myself. I'm not a bit sad about that. It's probably the same for everyone who has a certain profession or hobby. Who wants to buy furniture when they can make it themselves? Whereas everything that others do is always motivation and inspiration for one's own doing, and the fact that there are so many sources is gratifying and inspires imitation.
I guess you will confirm that, being a musician?

I can watch hours of videos in which costume designers demonstrate their art and skills and never get enough of them. I love hearing the sounds of the scissors as they cut through the fabric, the sewing machine or sewing needle as it pricks through the cloth. The quiet breath of the doer.

it's not fair that purses are only a women's thing, maybe I should get a fanny pack :D

HaHa! I'd like to see ya walking around with it! LOL :D thanks for the joke on yourself.

You really got me wondering how those Greek and Roman ladies stored their necessities lol :D

me too! Maybe I will go on and find out about this secret :D
