Pursuant to Section 397 (b) of Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, mandates that “ the barangay assembly shall meet at least twice a year to hear and discuss the semestral report of the Sangguniang Barangay concerning its activities and finances as well as problems affecting the barangay.” Further, Proclamation No. 260 was issued on 11 September 2011, declaring the last Saturday of March and the second Sunday of October, as Barangay Assembly Days.

The General Assembly was attended by the Barangay Council together with the guest speakers from the Bureau of Fire and Protection and from the Philippine National Police.
It was opened by our very own Barangay Chairman, Aloha Baoc Oracion. A representative also from the Department of the Interior and Local Government was also there to relay the message of the Officer-In-Charge of the DILG, Ma’am Elizabeth Buna. It was presented by Mrs. Marychell Seronay from the DILG.
She had also imparted some information about the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. The Bureau of Fire Protection was also given the privilege to speak and informed the people with their involvement on how they will able to prevent incidents related and caused by fire.
Then the Chief of the Police Station 3, where Barangay Dalipuga belongs, also took the opportunity to inform and give whereabouts of the Curfew that is being followed here at Iligan City. After hearing the speeches from the different supporting body of the Barangay, the Barangay Captain then delivered her “State of The Barangay Address”.
In her State of The Barangay Address, the Barangay Chairman stated all the programs that they have accomplished and their upcoming programs together with the Barangay Council. The Barangay Treasurer also reported the budget of the Barangay for the year 2018 and the expenses of the barangay from the month of January to March.
After all of the reports of the Barangay, an open forum happened and the constituents of the barangay addressed their questions and concerns to the council.
After the open forum, the barangay council did a raffle of 2 kilograms of rice as a sign of appreciation to the active participation of the people to the General Assembly.
It ended around five o'clock in the afternoon. The people were happy with the result of the General Assembly plus they went home with rice that could feed them for a couple of days too. Hopefully, there would be more people who will attend the next General Assembly. I believe people should be more involved now in order for them to achieve what they want to happen in our community. I believe that the Council will never be able to do their job without the help of the constituents of the Barangay.
I remember you posted an event during the women's day and now this.. i believe your community is very active with such events..keep it up
Yes, and I am too. I love to be involved in everything that is happening in the community. Actually, I am thinking of running in the SK Elections. A lot of people are encouraging me to run because maybe they have seen something in me because I am really active in our place. I am not still sure of it but hopefully, I will be able to think and to finally decide to run or not. :)
