How many of you have heard this saying at least one time in your life? Show of hands! :)
Back in college I have read somewhere (I cannot remember where exactly, all I know is that it had something to do with Buddhist religion and beliefs), that if you wish for something, in that moment, your wish is granted somewhere in the universe and it has begun its travel towards you.
Now, there is a catch! There always is! The catch is the wish itself. So lets say that you wish for a nice car. You are very particular about the model as you only see yourself in a Mercedes S 500 class.
It is ok. It is your choice and you want it in your life. Well that wish is automatically granted and the Mercedes S 500 with all it’s elegance and it’s fully loaded gimmicks is on it’s way towards you. Now here comes the catch. The moment the Mercedes comes into your life, it is not guaranteed anywhere, that you will be grateful for it. You might be struggling with health issues and then owning such a vehicle will have no impact on your well being, or you might be married to some old fart, that in exchange for your hand in marriage has granted you the Mercedes S500. In this case it will not bring you personal happiness, since well, since you are married to that old fart. Hehe..
The conclusion is simple be careful what you wish for because it might just come true. Now in that minimalistic scenario that I just explained above, the only problem is not that your wishes never come true, the problem is what exactly do you wish for and in how much detail are you subjecting your wish to the universe. Well keeping the same example in mind your wish should sound more detailed. I wish to have a Mercedes S class 500 when I am healthy, happily married with a healthy young rich attractive man that loves me and respects who I am blah blah blah..so on and so forth. Now the list can go on and you might say that your initial 1st wish has transformed into numerous ones and it has begun to take form of a list. Well I will disagree with you. The context when the wish comes true, is more important than the wish itself. Now, we can agree and disagree on this subject, but I came to understand that the Buddhist fellas are more smarter than I thought from the initial offering of granting wishes. Here’s what I think they are trying to say and please correct me if I am wrong. Their idea and explanation is simple. Don’t wish for crap, for material worthless stuff. That is not important. Yes, you can have anything you want, but at the end of the day, what do we all run around looking for? Happiness, health, security … and only after that, we can fully appreciate the rest that the universe grants us. We want to be healthy , to have people that love us in our lives, to have a home and a bed we can rest at night .. life should not be more complicated then that! The toys, that come with our greed, are in fact just toys ! We can honestly agree that none of us will take anything with us in the afterlife. I’m sure that not even the Egyptians, with their complicated burial ritual, ever got a single pot, cloth or jewelry with them in the afterlife. That being said the conclusion is this. Never wish for stuff you don’t need. If you really must wish for something, and you are not sure about it ask yourself this two questions Do I want this? or Do I really need this? Only after you honestly answer yourself these two questions, dare to ask the universe, or whoever you are asking, for the wish!
In the meantime keep working on your wishes, as I will do the same..and dare to believe that life is above materialism and more about love, health, happiness, family and friendship.
