From Pretty Detritus
deep within petals
the well is not dry
nature hides away
fertility and moisture
from the scathing gaze
of a fickle life-giver
warlord, feast maker
outer lips
exposed to the elements
photons, star tempests
tremble and desiccate
quiver and dissolve
resistance
can never
last forever
she will surrender
her molecular pool
experience vapour
consumption
savage incandescence
sublimation of her material existence
a roasted creature
a ravished corpse
fleshy hues singed to earthtones
pretty detritus held captive
in the rough grasp
the careless embrace
of the Anthropocene
deposed and discarded
a scant, scented memory
a disintegrating potpourri
centrepiece
her sabine seeds
pod sequestered, sheltered
soar and tumble in liberation
set free on an arid breeze
With Pretty Detritus, I tell a nature-based horror story where the sun is both care-giver and life ender, depending on the season, the length of the day, and the intensity of its glances. This piece of poetry keeps with my October Halloween theme and includes the vss365 prompt arid. It also includes themes of astronomy, science, and mysticism through the exploration of symbolism and analogy. The full poem will be part of my upcoming collection; date to be released .... unknown:)
Wine and Hemoglobin
the wine was corked and tainted
the source of the groom's contagion
the inspiration for his mind's disfiguration
or had he been cut
by the Maid of Honour's sharp wit
and it pricked open his suspicion
for once there were
two vigorous human beings
at his side now there are none
one floats, cummerbund up
a dead best man drowned in a vat
similarities to a soppy rodent's end
a most unfortunate coincidence
the bride he lured to a desolate
part of the vineyard
the fireflies flare bright against
a red-mottled, white wedding gown
sour grapes mixed with the sanguine
there's now no telling her dry rosé
from the best man's O negative
congealed hemoglobin
a most unfortunate coincidence

Unearthly first brought to mind themes of horror but from there my thoughts traveled to the clouds. The idea that the wispy ones could act like binary code a on simulated reality took hold, melding mysticism with physics and adding just a touch of space. Some math in there too, I suppose:) The AI art symbolizes are thoughts in a such a reality could lead to the manifestation of amazing and beautiful things:)
