Art Bell Takes His Final Ride
I received a call in 1996 from my brother.
Have you been listening to Art Bell? He's on in the middle of the night talking about aliens and all things paranormal.
That was my first knowledge of Art. He was flat-out funny; he was stomping serious; and he was very entertaining with every guest that shared his broadcast airways. And the Bumper Music -Wow.
But, being that his live program came on at a time not-so-favorable time for someone with a full-time day job I rarely heard the entire program during the week unless it was a recording. During the weekends Art and Whitley Strieber took to the airways and put a new curiosity twist to UFOs.
Art's personality was perfect for a paranormal broadcaster. He always did his research and was an expert in old and new radio technology. All his listeners received a 1st Class education.
Eventually Art moved to the national scene with http://www.coasttocoastam.com and infused some of his personal life into the show. Unfortunately, he and his family were threatened with harm from near and afar, he retired a few times, eventually leaving the popular national show. He lost his wonderful wife to asthma, but was able to fall in love again and remarry.
Art was the best radio host - Bar None! I still have my recordings, including the most popular (Fr.) Malachi Martin being interviewed by Art about the true evil in the world... It exists. I believe Malachi Martin was there waiting to welcome Art and help invite him onto the next Wild Ride -- this time into the Goodness of the Light. Ride On!
