And I Can't Remember How

in #blog19 days ago

There are other people sitting in there that I bet are in the same boat. And you probably could help people in a way that like they've never been helped before. Oh, absolutely.

Look, I just want people to understand incarceration is not supposed to be a demonic torture or torturous process. It's supposed to be for atoning and for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, Carissa, what is it that you said? You said something to me that stuck with me and I can't remember how you put it.

You put it better. Would you mind jumping in there? Sorry, George, I stepped away for a second. What are we talking about? About prison sentences.

They're not supposed to be. Oh, they're not supposed to be. They're supposed to be for rehabilitation, not retribution.

There you go. And I think that a lot of our thanks for that, Carissa. I think a lot of our our our sentencing in our country tends to be punitive and and full of reprisal.

I just can't help it. You know, what's the point of putting someone like I'll give an example. I've been look, by the way, forgive my ex the last few days.

I'm I'm a hold my emotions on my sleeve kind of person. That's just how I am. Granted, the circumstances, I think my emotions are hanging off my sleeves at this point for your life.

Like, dude, you're not holding anything back. They're just dangling there. And and it's frustrating because I saw this woman do an entire scheme of prepaid cards to the tune of, I think, 18 million dollars.

She got a sentence of 18 months, which in reality, with first steps and good behavior, she'll be out in about six to seven months. Eighteen million dollars. I misused fifty five thousand dollars of campaign funds.

I'm not trying to I'm not trying to make an excuse for my situation. I'm just trying to say how is that comparable? You know, it's like I'm so confused. And that's why this country is so messed up is there is no equal justice.

Right. There is obviously a at least a two tiered system. And then you touch on the prison industrial complex.

I mean, why aren't we opening a prison? Jennifer, I mean, the money they're making and it's all privatized. Right. And when you find out that the prison signed contracts with the rap labels in order to keep the rap music freaking gangster as hell to keep the prisons full, that's when you're like, whoa, wait a second, hold up.
