I have been exploring generative art for some time. My coding skills leave much to be desired but I have worked with more traditional digital tools for decades. I decided to see how these tools could be used to create generative art. This work explores an alternative to generative art created with code and coded algorithms. This collection uses algorithms and generative functions available in digital tools. The images explore color, textures, perceptions of depth, and leave the impression of something from real life, but none of these images have ever existed outside the digital world.
Inspiration and influences:
Process inspired by posts Daniel Lefcourt (professor at RISD) developed about generative actions. Influenced by Jasper Johns’ thick textures, impasto-like style, and iterative process. Peter Max use of bold color to define shape. Rothko’s immersive, yet stripped back, approach to evoke feeling. The style of this collection is very different from these great artists, and I only hope to honour them by mentioning them here.
There was no AI or hand drawing used. “Immersive Textures” is a collection I am building, under the pseudonym InkyBlinkyArt, that is born out of this idea. I release 1 of 1 each day on opensea. I usually have 3 or 4 pieces in development daily, but it takes days for them to develop, so I release one a day. The images are not retouched and are a result of repeatedly imposing filters, algorithms, fractal functions and layer styles on a simple generated image such as a gradient or noise.
