The first mistake I made on HIVE is that I followed the accounts that followed me. Many of the accounts that follow new users are spammers. So, only follow people who actually interact with you.
Hive can be a really frustrating place for new members. The site was built around a block chain and a crypto currency called HIVE. The site hiveblocks.com shows your activity on the blockchain:

I have two accounts. I just gave you a delegation of 20 HP. That will give you the resources to write 20 comments over a five day period. You can only write a few comments a day.
Don't bother replying to this comment. The best tool for networking is your upvote. Find some content that you like. Drop an upvote on their latest post. There is a good chance that they will visit your account and do the same.
