When it comes to NFTs, I'm very diversified as an investor and a collector. During this bear market, the best projects have even lost value from highs they saw at the end of 2021 and the start of 2022, but they've continued to improve and maintain collectors.
For this list I'm looking at NFT collector projects and they all revolve around well-known IP.
Here are my top 3 choices and why...
Number 3
Batcowl / DC NFT - Palm NFT Studios
In October of 2021, people to registered for the DC Fandome event got free NFTs with famous DC comic book covers. Over a hundred thousand people picked them up. I was one of them, lol. Without a marketplace and just a free NFT in the maretplace when the bear market set in, the project continued to grow.
They launched the Batcowl PFP NFTs and each one was promised some pretty incredible utility. They lived up to the roadmap and I've been very pleased as a Batcowl minter. (Minted in March of 2022 for $300) The value of a cowl now is around $500 floor, and they have since started dropping DC Comic NFTs. They started with Superman #1 and it was a huge success. Since then they have dropped about a comic a week with some great value coming to the relatively limited comic drops. Most at or around 5000 with mixed rarities.
This project continues to deliver on its original roadmap and grow its user base almost exclusively in the bear market. As a collector, this is a great project.
Number 2
DC Hro - Hro
Hro creates officially licensed hybrid NFT trading cards. The first IP they have launched is for DC. (DC is really killing it in web3) The first set launched in March of 2022. The release Chapter 1 cards with the release of The Batman. The set was made up of all kinds of unique artwork from the comics of DC. If you bought packs and opened your cards, you could scan them to show up in your digital wallet with the matching mint number.
What makes Hro so much fun is the rewards for collecting and the challenge of moving up on the leaderboard. I've been steadily moving up and I've moved in to the top 350 in the hybrid set. The also release limited digital only sets that have some incredible artwork as well.
Collecting is a lot of fun on Hro and they keep dropping new card sets which is nice. You can also move your digital cards to an ethereum wallet and sell in marketplaces like tokentrove. For collectors, this is made for you. I'm excited to see what other IP they launch next.
Number 1
VeVe - Ecomi
VeVe still remains the number 1 digital collectible project out there. You can buy 3D collectibles of your favorite characters, props, art or vehicles. Some are interactive and all have augmented reality native in the application. Plus they drop fully-readable Marvel comics often.
They've had problems with bots, some drops not selling out and delays on all of their major improvements, but... they are still number 1. Even without the promised Master Collector Program that ultimately adds a benefit for holding collectibles and many other delays, they still hold almost all of the prized IP...
Disney, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, U.S. Postal Service, Coca-Cola, DreamWorks, Givenchy, Ghostbusters, Star Trek, James Bond, Jurassic World, MGM, Pixar, Warner Brothers and all kinds of independent artists.
VeVe has a plan to launch the MCP and their metavers, VeVeVerse, in the first half of the year. If they can deliver, we could see VeVe hold the top spot for a long time.
Honorable Mentions
NBA Topshot - They have done a lot to improve the burn of cards, but still suffering from having too many nfts, and not enough ways to collect or use them. They are getting better, and I'm still a fan.
NFL AllDay - They did a good job this season with the playbook challenges and gave you more of a reason to collect.
Todd McFarlane - The Spawn creator is doing something really cool and I hope it catches on. He is launching his own 3D digital collectible on his own website. He even has a showroom you can edit. It is pretty cool. He has a long way to go to compete with the likes of VeVe, but it is a glimpse into the posibilites that are out there for artists.
Well, there you go. Do you agree? Let me know what I missed in the comments below.
Todd is really committed to doing some fun stuff with his OddKey platform and his digital collectibles.
I was lucky and early on snagged 3 of the McFarlane Batman B&W at retail. Still have em sitting there and the hope is to move at least 1 during the next run. Fingers crossed.
I have an OddKey piece too. That is amazing about the B&W. 3 is HUGE! I do have a Todd Batman on VeVe. Let me know when you sell it, lol I might want to buy.
Yummy!!!!
hell yeah, that is awesome
