RE: Adding value / Is Steem the place for a blog? / 're-up parroting'

in #blog6 years ago

No need to apologize for this, it’s a great post. The monetization of content on steemit brings up something I always try to remind people. “Value” is relative. Many people focus on how value is decided by supply and demand, and while that is generally true in society, both supply and demand can be manipulated. To someone who has made money thanks to Haejins posts, they most likely believe he deserves all the money he gets. For those just focused on spreading the reward pool and helping create a fair ecosystem, he is actually taking away value by spamming the bot and trending pages. You could say the same for many different contributions to steemit. For me, memes take away value because they drown out a lot of hard work and cause you’ve to apologize for posts like these when it seems everyone wants a quick fix. For others their fun and have the potential to bring in a bunch of new users who aren’t good at writing long articles or making videos.

I honestly think dmania should not be paid in Steem but should function with SMT when they are ready. It may be a good idea to have SMT for a bunch of these sites when the time and effort and creativity and skills make what’s “valuable” even more arbitrary.
