And so much has happened.....
I've sent two children to college, bought and sold a home, and watched a loved one lose a battle with addiction.
Life offline has been full of change, but online…well, that’s been another story.
I'm definitely not the same person, but something still remains: my tendency to sort my thoughts using the written word.
So, in this new cycle of my life, I tiptoed back to my crpto blog account (Oh, hey, it's called Hive now!) and was very happy to see that this site is still thriving and that some of my early 'friends' are still here, sharing their voices. I can't say the same for Twitter—though the accounts still exist, the content is not the same. It's hard yelling into the void sometimes.
As someone who was an early adopter of online writing, typing away my thoughts in the slums of the 90s internet, watching what has happened over the last ten years has just made me sad. It feels like so many of us are no longer motivated by sharing our knowledge - instead, we share information to commodify it - utilizing it to entertain, persuade, or teach someone how to use something we're selling.
I know. I'm guilty of it as well. Hey, we all gotta eat, right?
But how do we grow as a species if we continue to do that? Information exchange is key to knowledge. If we aren't communicating with each other -- instead of at each other - wouldn't our brains atrophy over time?
--oh yeah, I also went back to school since I was last here to study the science of information, so I'm kinda on geek mode at the moment --
And then, to throw salt on that wound (ouch_), _we started using AI to write, and sometimes think for us. Great move, humanity.
Still, I’m grateful this community is here. You remind me that unadulterated human voices still matter, and that sharing our thoughts for the sake of connection is still worth doing.
